Week 5 Highlights
The fifth week of the 2004 Summer Bridge began on a partly sunny and warm Monday morning. The students were already in the lecture center as the staff members put the final touches on the agenda for the day.
LARES Director and Summer Bridge English Instructor Leonard Ramirez wears a purposeful look in advance of the proceedings.
Summer Bridge Coordinator Luis Duarte shares a few words with Leonard before the meeting is called to order.
Approaching from afar was the guest speaker for the day...
Prof. Ralph Cintron, Ph.D.
Awaiting the start of the session were students from Terry's 9AM Math section...
As well as student's from Rosario's 9AM Math section...
and Mitzi's 9AM English section.
Luis Duarte and Prof. Cintron confer before he begins his presentation.
Cheryl and Ronnier exchanged some instructional material.
Leonard Ramirez was deep in thought...
After all the preliminary tasks were completed, Luis Duarte called the session to order. He introduced Prof. Cintron
Prof. Cintron's talk was related to readings assigned in the English classes. Those reading were selections from Prof. Cintron's book "Angel's Town".
After his presentation, Prof. Cintron invited questions and comments from the students.
There were some spirited exchanges as students voiced differing opinions on a variety of topics related to Prof. Cintron's presentation.
The second segment of the day saw a Jeopardy-type game between teams of students. The questions asked were drawn from the LARES Student Survival Guidebook. Unfortunately there aren't any pictures of this portion of the session since the photographer had a meeting to attend.
