Soccer Korea

Soccer is the most popular sport in South Korea, with the professional league, the K-League in existence since 1983. The 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup , and the scenes created by the Red Devils and the Be the Reds campaign brought South Korean soccer a world wide audience. Players like Ahn Jung-hwan, Hong Myung-bo and Seol Ki-hyeon became household names as Guus Hiddink led South Korea to the semifinal. Teams such as the Suwon Samsung Bluewings and the Seongnam (Songnam) Ilhwa Chunma are among the most powerful clubs in Asian football, while players such as Alpay Ozalan and Chris Marsen, Southampton captain in the 2003 FA Cup final have joined teams like Incheon nited and Busan I'cons.
