Well, next thursday is the big day. I haven't heard from a couple of you in a while and you need to get in touch with me. The Fence went really well last weekend. We made $200.00 and had some of the best brisket I've eaten in a long time. Ken thank your dad for me again on before of the club. This weekend is the bakesale. Everyone needs to bake at least four baked goods and one batch good (cookies, brownies, etc.) If you want to bake more, that's great!! Everything needs to be dropped off at my parent's motel (Citrus Motel, 2054 Central Blvd.) or my apartment (Posada De Las Palmas, 3775 Boca Chica Blvd. #2612) on Saturday, or brought to the Church of the Advent, Episcopal on Elizabeth Street (next to Sam's Stadium) by 8:00am on Sunday. If you can stay and help with the sale that's great; if not you still need to bring your baked goods! On Monday, I will have our account divided into shares based on participation in fund raising and let everyone know if and how much they are lacking to be able to go on Thursday. If you are absolutely sure you will not go please let me know so I can refigure your share into everyone else's. Also, if you are not going, we still need your help. Remember, any leftover money will be used to buy equipment. James, you owe $60.00 in candy money!!! Along with the amount due notice I will post on Monday, I should also have an itinerary for those of you who are going. Remember we will leave Thursday afternoon (4/29) and return Monday morning (5/3). There will be practice this Saturday from 10-noon and Sunday from 2-4pm. These will be our last two practices . I will have the caber and the height equipment on the field one or both days. Do not miss!!! SATURDAY (4/17/04)!! We will all meet at the Whataburger parking lot by the Walmart Supercenter on Alton Gloor at 9:00am. DO NOT BE LATE!! From there we will follow Ken back to his house to work on the fence. Bring work clothes and water. All the tools and materials will be provided. Plan on working until the job is done. If we finish early we may practice in the field behind Ken's house. SUNDAY (4/18/04)!! There will be practice from 2:00pm to 4:00pm this will be one of the last practices before we leave on the 29th!! SATURDAY (4/24/04)!! Unless plans change, there will be practice from 10:00am to noon. SUNDAY (4/25/04)!! BAKESALE!!!!! It will work just like last time. Bring your baked goods to the Church at 8:00am and stay to sell. We will have practice from 2:00pm to 4:00pm as well. THURSDAY (4/29/04)!! We leave for Kansas!! I will make out an itinerary for everyone later. SATURDAY (5/1/04)!! We compete in Kansas!! MONDAY (5/3/04)!! We will be back in Brownsville. March 16: I hope you have submitted you entry form and fee. If not, it is probably too late. Scarborough Faire fills up faster than any other games in Texas. This Wednesday we have volunteered to take part in the CCE Spring Break Project 2004. Everyone needs to be at the Brownsville Boys and Girls Club (7th street and Tyler) from 9:00am until 1:00pm. water and Lunch (Rudy's BBQ) will be provided. Also, this Wednesday is our Burger King Night at the Burger King on the corner of 802 and 14th street. I need everyone there by 4:00pm. I have already made flyers and tickets. KEN and JAMES can you each make-up a poster board for the event? Remember it is St. Patrick's Day!! At 4:00pm I want to send people out with flyers to Sunrise Mall, Wal-Mart, and anywhere else we think is good. Starting at 5:00pm, we will take turns holding the posterboards by the road and handing out tickets to people as they come in. Also, Karl might be there with his Bag Pipes. Again, remember it is St. Patrick's Day. Wear, paint, or dye anything you want green!!! I'm still working on the shirts. I already bought the shirts. I got something like one 2XL, two or three XL, five or six L, and one M. You each owe me $5.00 for the shirt. I found someplace in Matamoros that will put our emblem on the front in color and UTB/TSC SCOTTISH HEAVY ATHLETICS CLUB on the back for $6.00 per shirt. This is not a bad price compared to some of the quotes I got around town and the club will pay for the silk-screening. I will take the shirts to them tomorrow and they will be ready by next week. I have been advised against black and will use white for the lettering. For the emblem, I will try several color schemes. If you have any suggestions, please call me 639-1350. On Sunday March 7th the UTB Scottish Heavy Athletics Club held their monthly meeting. Here are the minutes from that meeting: Our current budget is $241.05 and our goal to attend Scarborough Faire is $1000.00 Scarborough Faire will be the weekend of April 23-25 in Waxahachie, TX. Each individual club member is responsible for mailing the entry form with the $10.00 entry fee no later April 3, 2004. The candy money from the Profit Potentials fundraiser will be due at the next meeting (April 4). James is going to see if we can do a Burger King Night on St. Patrick's Day (March 17). The Car Shoot fundraiser is still scheduled for April 3. We will continue to hold practices in the field behind the Texas State Bank on the corner of Boca Chica Blvd. and King's Hwy in Brownsville. Practice times will be Saturdays from 10am to noon and Sundays from 2pm to 4pm. Our next meeting is scheduled for April 4 and will be at my apartment (3775 Boca Chica Blvd. #2612). The club voted on a club emblem. There was a tie between those who wanted the lions facing outward and those who wanted the lions facing inward. After reviewing the two variations, I will cast the tie breaking vote for the inward facing lions. Those images will be forwarded shortly. The club voted to buy T-shirts individually and then the club will pay to have an emblem imprinted on the shirts. The shirt color will be royal blue and the emblem will be black. I have located navy blue shirts in two locations in Sunrise Mall. One is a T-shirt and embroidery shop between Rio Java and Mall Security ($6.99ea) and the other is Footlocker who will have an order of navy blue shirts in by friday (4 for $20.00). Unless anyone objects, I will purchase the shirts from Footlocker this week and you can all pay me $5.00 at practice on Saturday or Sunday. We are going to submit a form for a clubspotlight in the collegian but that will not happen until April. The Brownsville Herald (who will be receiving this email as well) may be interested in doing a story on us. I will keep in contact with them and let you know what develops. We have volunteered to take part in the Center for Civic Engagement Spring Break Project 2004 community service project at the Brownsville Boys and Girls Club on Wednesday March 17 from 8:30am to 1:00pm. Please wear appropriate clthing for yard work or painting. This concludes the minutes for our March meeting. Feb. 28: Pictures and such from the McAllen Games earlier today. The pages are still being worked on, please comment and make suggestions on anything that might be good to add. Click here to read old news ![]() ![]()
