WILLIAM M. WILLIAMS was born in Lawrence County, Ind., April 6, 1854, and is one in a family of thirteen children born to Richard and Abigail (Kern) Williams. The father was born August 16, 1806, in Tennessee, and died August 10, 1880, in Lawrence County. Mrs. Williams was born November 13, 1811, and is yet living. William M. was liberally educated in the public schools of his native county, was raised to farm life, and November 23, 1876, married Miss Flora I. Short, who was born October 20, 1855, a daughter of Owens and Elizabeth (Lancaster) Short. The two children that have blessed them are Clarence, born March 3, 1878, and Claudius O., born September 17, 1881. Mr. Williams is one of the successful farmers and stock-raisers of this township, and is the fortunate owner of a good farm of 476 acres, a part of which is the old homestead.
