"History of Lawrence, Orange and Washington Co.'s, Indiana" Goodspeed Bros. and Co., 1884 ELI STULTS was born in STOKES CO., NORTH CAROLINA, January 27, 1827, being the eldest of four children born to WILLIAM and ANNA (HOLDER) STULTS, who emigrated to this county (Lawrence Co., Indiana) about the year 1831. They were natives of NORTH CAROLINA. Subject remained at home until he attained his majority, and on December 21, 1854, married SARAH A. SHIELDS, and to this union seven children have been born: DAVID R., who married RUTHEY ALLEN; WILLIAM S.; JOHN C., whose wife was DORA MITCHELL; HENRY C.; MARY E.; NATHANIEL V. and SALLIE. He has followed farming all his life, and now owns 260 acres of well-improved land. He also owns and operates a corn-mill and tile machine. Mr. and Mrs. Shults are members of the Christian Church, and he always contributes to the support of all laudable undertakings.
