History of Lawrence, Orange and Washington Co.,'s Indiana Goodspeed Bros. and Co., 1884 WILLIAM DAGGY, a native of Augusta County, Va., was born December 2, 1820, and is a son of Jacob and Ellen (Lockridge) Daggy, who emigrated to Indiana, and settled in Henry County in 1832. He received what education he has in the country schools of his native State, was raised on a farm and when twelve years old came with his parents to the Hoosier State. In 1844 he came to Bedford, and began working of Hon. George G. Dunn, and in May 1847, was united in marriage with Miss Rebecca Mitchell, by whom he is the father of six children, the following named living: Mary K. (Ogg), John N., Thomas O., M.J. (Ragsdale) and Martha A. For a time after his marriage Mr. Daggy farmed, then traded in stock until the close of the war. He was elected Sheriff of Lawrence County in 1864, reelected in 1866, serving in all four years, and after this was engaged in the stock business in the South. At present he is engaged in milling two miles south of Bedford. He is one of the well-to-do and public-spirited men of Lawrence County.
