The 2016 NSL All-Star
game was hosted by Glenville this year. The game was played at Belvidere
Ave. with many of the York managers in attendance. The home team Schmidt
Conference all-stars were able to prevail 3-1 with all the action coming in the
early innings. The Cooper all-stars got things going early when Dee
"The Flea" Gordon led off with a single. Gordon moved to third
on a Machado single. Manny then promptly stole second. Gordon
scored on a Bautista ground out to second to give the Cooper a 1-0 lead.
The Schmidt evened the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the first when Bryce
"Haaaarper" homered off of Cooper starter Greinke. In the bottom of the second Schmidt would
plate 2 more runs. Posey led off the inning with a walk and moved to
second on a Morales groundout. Cano then singled to drive Posey in.
With two outs Correa doubled to score Cano. That would be all of
the scoring in the game. The Cooper did threaten in the 7th when Gonzalez
and Seager would reach 2nd and 3rd base with less
than two outs, but Volquez and Bumgarner
each came in to put out the fire. The Cooper also led off the 9th with a
Bautista double and a Rizzo walk, but Rondon was able
to retire the next three batters in order. After the second inning the Cooper
pitching staff shut down the Schmidt lineup by not allowing another hit. Arrieta got the win for the Schmidt while Greinke was saddled with the loss. Rondon
is credited with the save. MVP goes to Carlos Correa for his clutch 2 out
double in the 2nd. A close runner up to MVP was the Cooper's Dee Gordon.
Gordon went 3 for 4 in the game scoring the Cooper's lone run.
Special thanks to Si for keeping score...the entire game he kepty commenting on how much he loved to put all of
