Meet Baby Kryno

Kryno's Story

Little Kryno, the son of born again Christians was born 3 weeks premature on October 30, 2003. He was normal and healthy with no significant problems until Christmas 2003 when his mom, Janine noticed that his abdomen was a little swollen. Most of her friends comforted her by telling her it is “quite normal’ for babies sometimes have a little “full belly” and besides, his was not big at all.

On Saturday, January 10th, 2004 things changed. Kryno had a slight temperature but his mom thought at first that it is normal due to the high ambient temperature that time of the year in the area where they live, about 35km (22.36 miles) outside a town called Nelspruit, South Africa. A little later his mom felt concerned and decided to take his temperature with an electronic thermometer and it was 39,5° (103.1° Fahrenheit). The local pharmacist said they could give him a suppository to bring his temperature down. Unfortunately, the suppositories they had on hand were melted because of the hot climate so his parents bathed and sponged him down in cold water to bring his temperature down. They soon realized that it did not have the desired effect and rushed in to town and reached the pharmacy just before closing time.

The qualified Sister on duty told the parents that she couldn’t give Kryno any medicine because he is only 10 weeks old. She examined Kryno, checked his ears for ear infection as a possible cause for the high temperature, also noticed that he was very pale and his abdomen was very swollen. She immediately directed them to a private hospital and phoned the Emergency Room in advance to inform them of her findings and that the parents were on the way with Kryno.

Kryno was diagnosed within an hour with cancer. He had a tumor in his abdomen area approximately 7 x 9cm (2.75 inches x 3.54 inches). The family was referred to Pretoria, a couple of hours drive away from their hometown where Kryno was admitted. They did a RT scan and Kryno went in for surgery on the Wednesday where they removed one large and two smaller tumors. All three tumors were removed successfully and they were waiting for the results to determine what kind of cancer Kryno has.

According to the test results Kryno has a very rare cancer, malignant rhabdoid tumours, which grows in his abdomen, it was also attached to a part of his liver. If the tumors are not removed it will get so big and it will eventually fill his whole abdomen, leaving no room for this other organs to develop normally.

Only three weeks after surgery Kryno had another ultrasound and the specialists found more tumors between his liver and kidney's, which indicates or suggests that this little baby has a very aggressive kind of cancer. Kryno is currently undergoing chemotherapy for a period of 34 weeks because his parents decided on no further surgery at this time. He will go every 2 weeks for a 5-day chemo session.

Please pray for this couple and their precious little one. Also, for his 3-year-old sister, Nina, who is going thru a difficult time. The family really needs all the prayer support they can get for Kryno’s healing and to comfort and uplift them.

"Our Special Angel"

God sent a Special Angel
Into our lives one day.
He has a unique mission
That we may grow in faith.
He brings strength and joy,
Boldness we now display.
Every day that he lives,
God's Grace is portrayed.
What gift is given greater
Than a life for a friend?
Reminding us of Jesus's love,
A love that knows no end.
Let us express gratitude,
Knowing the price paid.
Thanking God every day
He reveals His awesome ways.

"He Gathers Every Teardrop"

Regardless of the circumstance,
Regardless of the fear,
Regardless of the pain we bear,
Regardless of the tear.

Our God is ever in control,
Performing as He should,
And He has promised in His Word
To work things for our good.

But as a loving Father would,
He sometimes lets us cry,
To cleanse the hurt out of our heart,
To wash it from our eye.

Yet gently gathers the tears
Within His hands to stay.
Until He turns them into pearls,
And gives them back someday.

Most of the battles of life are won by looking beyond the clouds to the sun. And having patience to wait for the day when the sun comes out and the clouds float away.

We rob ourselves of life's greatest need when we lock up our hearts and fail to heed the outstretched hand reaching to find a kindred spirit whose heart and mind are lonely and longing to somehow share our joys and sorrows and to make us aware that life's completeness and richness depends on the things we share with our loved ones and friends.
