The Sumar team entered three cars, but only Jimmy Daywalt made the show, qualifying the No. 19 car second and leading eight laps before he crashed.  To Daywalt's right are Jerry Hoyt, car-owner Chapman Root, and chief mechanic John Blough.

At Darlington on July 5, 1954, Jimmy started 20th in the #16 Auto Shippers Kurtis-Offy.  He finished 23rd because of contact in a turn.  He earned $75 for this race.

 

August 29, 1954, Milwaukee

At Milwaukee on August 29, 1954, Jimmy qualified 13th in the #19 Hopkins Moore D-Offy.  He finished 21st, earning $154.
