Islands of Britain

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to my new website, Islands of Britain. I am the webmaster, Luke M Nicholas. If you have any queries please e-mail me at nichos123_99@yahoo.com. The website is still under construction at the moment, but I hope to have the page up and running by the end of the month.

NEWS

August 9th 2002: Islands of Britain website is born.

August 11th 2002: I have learnt that I will be visiting Caldey Island, off Tenby in South Wales, in the next few weeks. I'll upload information once i've visited the island. Also, expect a Drake's Island feature to be created soon. The Steepholm section is nearly completed and online.

August 12th 2002: Steepholm is now fully online, after some last minute modifications. Drake's Island is also completed but not online yet. I've added some new links. Expect Caldey Island and Flatholm sections to be online within the next month.

August 13th 2002: Two new pages are now fully online! A Visit to Steep Holm and Drake's Island have now been polished off and uploaded. My thanks goes to Chris Bollard, Steve Johnson, Brian Moseley and David Moore at the Palmerston Forts Society for their help. I have added links to the websites operated by these people. These links can be found (unsurprisingly) in the 'links' section at the bottom of the page. More modifications have been added to the site. I've basically been tidying up the site and the pages.

August 14th 2002: Users may be interested to know that through Addme (a free website promotion engine, see their ad near the bottom of the page), the Islands of Britain website has been submitted to several major search engines such as Google, All the Web and Scrub the Web amongst others. Hopefully we will be added to Lycos, Northern Light and Hotbot as well in the not too distant future. In the meantime, Godrevy Island, Looe Island and probably Stert Island are in the making.

August 16th 2002: Godrevy Island is now online! New links have also been added to the site. I am now working on Looe Island and Burgh Island.

August 20th 2002: A new photographer has joined the 'Islands of Britain' team. We are pleased to welcome Tom Harrison to the website. If you want to get in touch with him then here is his e-mail address; thfrodo@aol.com

August 22nd 2002: Sully Island will probably be online during the weekend, as I am visiting it then. Work on Burgh has been postponed while Looe, Flatholm and Caldey are done.

August 23rd 2002: Looe Island is now completed. Works in progress now include Sully Island, Flatholm, Caldey Island (with St. Margaret's Island) and Burgh Island.

September 2nd 2002: Well, I finally visited Sully Island and took some photos. I'll scan them in soon. Also, Flatholm is nearly ready, i'm just waiting for permission to use some photos. Tom and I are also planning to start a local heritage website about our native Porthkerry area soon.
