We are a Darts Association with teams from Kiama to Bulli competing. Currently 19 local clubs / hotels have at least one team playing in our association. 

Unfortunately a lot of records have gone missing over the years and a lot of information is unavailable so if anyone out there 

can fill in any blanks - even if its just full names where only initial are available, please contact IDLDA on any of the avenues listed below.

Competitions are played on a Wednesday night starting at either 7.30 or 8.00pm depending on the venue with most venues 

opting for the earlier start these days. There are two competitions each year - the 1st starting January/February and finishing May/June 

- the 2nd comp starts three weeks after the commencement of the 1st and finishes November/December. Teams for these competitions 

consist of 8 players but may play 2 reserves. Games consist of 2 x  Fours ( 801 Double finish ), 4 x Doubles ( 601 Double finish ) 

and 8 x Singles ( 501 Double finish ). Ten Wednesday nights throughout the year are kept free for Championships 

- any registered player who has played 5 competition games may compete in these games. 

These games are scheduled to be played at Western Suburbs Leagues Club in the 2002 season and commence at 7.30pm.

The Inaugural meeting of the Illawarra District Darts Association ( IDLDA ) was held on 

Sunday 30^th March 1958.  Mr J Ross ( President – Wollongong Workers Club Dart Club ), 

Mr Bill Rymer ( President – Illawarra Darts Association ), along with numerous ladies 

interested in forming a ladies darts association were present at the meeting.  

It was decided at this meeting to form the IDLDA with teams consisting of 8 players to 

be played of a Thursday night. A special meeting was called for Sunday 27^th April 1958 

to elect a committee and discuss a format.

The meeting on 27^th April 1958 elected the first IDLDA committee as follows:

Also at this meeting, the format was discussed and general playing rules were decided.

Another meeting was then called for 18th May 1958 to decide final format and conduct the first IDLDA draw.

At the 18^th May 1958 meeting 17 teams entered the Inaugural IDLDA competition.

Those teams being:                  

It was decided at this meeting teams would be divided into two sections ( by a draw of the hat ) 

and games would consist of 1 Eights (1001 ), 2 Fours ( 501 ) and 8 Singles ( 201 ).

Mr Bill Rymer arranged for the Benson Shield to be donated for the teams to play for.

Registration was 10/-d a team – then 1/-d a player each week.  

This format continued until the 60’s when several changes occurred. In 1961 Singles became 301 start 

and in 1962 Fours were replaced with doubles ( 501 start ). In 1964 Fours came back into the format 

leaving games being played at 2 Fours ( 801 ), 4 Doubles ( 501 ) and 8 Singles (301).

In 1979 the IDLDA amalgamated with the IDDA ( Illawarra District Darts Assosciation ) to form the

IDA ( Illawarra Darts Association ) but still operates independently under its own committee.  

1980 seen Doubles change to 601 start and Singles became 501 start to give us our current format 

– this year also seen B grade introduced. C Grade followed in 1986 and in 1990 a D Grade also entered our competitions.

In 1995 E Grade was introduced but unfortunately, loss of teams forced us to discontinue this grade in 2000.
