The problem Of Aids In India

I hate this, it just isn't right to make your people suffer when you know how to stop the danger of this deadly disease. HIV is a dangerous problem in India today but due to the ignorance of the people or just not knowing has caused aids to skyrocket throughout India.

The First Case
The first case was detected and diagnosed by commercial sex workers in Chennai, Tami Nadu. After the first case they opened screening center throughout the country and eventually opened screening blood banks in 1987. After the blood banks and centers were established they started to educate the people about aids and a National organization was formed to tell people how to control aids if they have it and if not how to prevent from getting it.

Sex Workers
Sex work which is legal in some states in India is a major problem when it comes to aids because majority of the sex workers don't protect themselves. There is often 3 reasons in which women get into sex work and those reasons are poverty, marital break-up, or are forced into it. About 70% of the sex workers are positive for HIV and they are controlled by madams, pimps, and money lenders due to this reaching them is a challenge. A study was given and it shows that HIV prevalence has went from 17% in 1992 to 43% in 2000. In other places there has been a positive outcome because now 86% of sex workers use condoms in central Kokata in 2000 which has risen from 27% in 92.

Injecting drug Users (IDU's)
The first appearance of IDU's occurred in Manipur since then it has been a constant increase of people having HIV in India from injecting in urban areas where it is a major problem. Drugs in India are used in public places such as parks, playgrounds and market places and they also have shooting galleries where they inject. You can purchase syringes and needles at pharmacies but people feel no need to buy them when they can share with each other. The bad thing about this is when the males who test positive don't tell their wives and now you have a whole family with HIV.

Truck Drivers
India has one of the largest road networks in the world so the truck drivers who drive the road have to go long distances and face not seeing their families for sometimes weeks or months at a time just depending on where they go, therefore they feel the need for sex so when they go to the dhabas or hotels to rest they pick up a sex worker have sex with them most likely unprotected and just drive then to the next hotel where either other truck drivers or teenage males rent the females out for sex and it is just a constant cycle

Life Expectancy In India

The rates of life expectancy in India is much lower than that of the United States due to the infant death rates rising because some of them may be infected with HIV/Aids an may not be able to survive but also just the fact that India is an undeveloped country plays a role in the life expectancy also because they don't have as many resources as Americans do but they need them resources to be provided to them.

Prevention
Educating the people of India on HIV/Aids prevention is a complicated matter due to the fact that there are many different languages spoken throughout India and also dialects so they can reach the national level but at state and local where this information is most needed it is almost impossible to do. To provide more help to states the NACO has expanded its program to provide funds for the State Aids control Society. NACO tries to have all sorts of events to raise money so the people can be treated properly and can be helped and the types of fundraisers held are concerts, radio drama, tv spots a voluntary blood donation day and many other ways to prevent or treat the disease. Now we have the problem at the governmental level with the people of the government not admitting that there country will be in crisis due to this epidemic and just not willing to help the less fortunate.

Therefore I feel the people of India are ignorant not only of the fact that the epidemic of aids is going to sweep their country but also the people are getting the education of aids at the last stage so it really isn't anything they can do to prevent it but try to make sure the next generation of their people don't have this problem.
