MLA Format

 

These are the many formats you use in MLA style to make sure you don’t plagiarize or copy anyone’s work.

 

Book:

Last Name, First Name. Full Title of Book: Subtitle. Series. Place of Publication: Publisher, Year.

Ex: Madison, John. What did Johnny do now? Princeton: Princeton UP, 1971.

 

Periodical:

Last Name, First Name. “Title of Article: Subtitle.” Name of Periodical Volume Number (Date): Pages

Cashville, Tom. “Experiments in Philosophic Genre: Descartes’ Meditations.Critical Inquiry 9 (1983): 545-64

 

Article In Book:

Last Name, First Name. “Title of Article.” Title of Book. Ed. Editor’s name. Series. Place of Publication: Publisher, Year. Pages.

Miller, Nancy K. “Writing (from) the Feminine: George Sand and the Novel of Female Pastoral.” The Representation of Women in Fiction. Ed. Carolyn G. Heilbrun and Margaret R. Higonnet. Selected papers of the English Institute, New Series 7. Baltimore Johns Hopkins UP, 1983, 123-51.

If the book or article has more than one author Just alphabetize  the first names and if an author has more than one work put his name and alphabetize the titles of the subjects
