Seniors News - Chicks@Lunch@Theatre

There’s no denying it, Chicks@Lunch have a lot of fun, but they do a lot of good too, as Friends of the Animal Welfare League (AWL) of Queensland.
Founded eight years ago by Rosie Thompson to help the stray and abandoned animals at AWL, Chicks@Lunch has
since raised about $90,000, mostly through monthly luncheons held at Southport Yacht Club (bookings and cancellation notification essential).
Sometimes, though, fundraising efforts have taken a different path.
A recent charity night saw the Chicks@Lunch@Theatre--Gold Coast Little Theatre in Southport, to be exact,
where they enjoyed a sneak preview of the successful production, High Society. The event was attended by some 100 supporters.
Animal Welfare League Marketing Manager Katie Garrett said that “due to tough economic times, many people
are surrendering their animals, especially medium to large dogs, out of necessity, not because they want to.”
Katie continued, “At the moment, the AWL has 60 dogs and 80 cats looking for permanent homes, as well as
300-400 animals in foster care, waiting to come into the shelter. The foster carers are our lifeline.”
For more information contact Rosie on 0422 927 277.
