The earliest documented ancestor in this Warthen line is William Warthen born about 1765-1770. It is known that he was residing in Warren county, North Carolina in the winter of 1790 when he married Phoebe Puckett on December 23, 1790. It is thought that a brother of his James, married a Puckett sister there as well on June 16, 1785. William and Phoebe migrated to Overton county TN about 1802 and settled on land at the headwaters of Flat Creek about 3 miles west of Livingston. The main crops for these farmers were tobacco and cattle. William and Phoebe had 7 children. A few remained in Tennessee, but some migrated north to Indiana. William's son, William married Sarah Wadkins and came to Morgan county Indiana before 1831. They settled in the Brown twp area of Morgan county and remained there until their deaths. This Warthen family married into several of the Morgan county names that are still in the county today. My direct ancestor of their children is Amanda, their first born; she married Ephraim Ratts. With further research on this line, I hope to prove that the Warthen line is connected to the Worthen/Warthen line that resided in Essex county, Massachusetts. If you can connect with this Warthen line, please contact me and I will be happy to exchange data with you.
