Child Rescue Breathing
NOTE : This material is intended as a supplement to information learned in our American Red Cross Community CPR course. It is not to be used as a substitute for CPR training.
Child Rescue Breathing
1. Check
Scene ...
Victim ...
2. Call send someone to call 911 (if alone give rescue breathing about 1 minute and then go call the number
yourself)
3. Care for the victim
We will start with:
Tap (Are you OK?)
(If you get no response)
Shout (HELP - Call 911)
Check breathing (3-5 seconds)
1. Open the airway
(with your hands) Head tilt - chin lift
2. Look Listen and Feel (3-5 seconds)
(If no breath)
Give two breaths (slowly & gently)
(if air goes in)
Check Pulse (5-10 seconds)(In the neck - like an adult)
(if victim has a pulse but is not breathing)
Begin rescue breathing
one slow breath every 3 seconds(each breath about 1 1/2 seconds)
repeat 20 times
Recheck pulse (5 seconds)
(if victim has a pulse)
(check breathing)
continue rescue breathing
one breath every 3 seconds
repeat 20 times
Recheck pulse (5 seconds)
(if victim has a pulse)
(check breathing)
Continue rescue breathing (check pulse every minute)
(if victim does not have a pulse)
( Begin CPR )
* If mouth is damaged or you have trouble breathing into mouth - close mouth and breath into
the nose
