The Beginning

Since the beginnings of time, the Fae have existed, fluttering, flying, and making mischief, and since the beginning of time, these fae have sought a place to belong.

One day in the distant past, representatives of the fae courts gathered in order to choose a home for their nomadic mischief-makers, When the dust settled and all was settled, the fae had chosen the emerald isles for their home, for there was much magic in these places, and the people their had long revered the fae.

Upon their arrival to the isle, the fae found that part of it was inhabited by a monstrous race known as the Fir Bolgs. The fae fought many skirmishes with the bands of the Fir Bolg, but the war finally came down to a confrontation at the sacred ground of Magh Tuiredh (pronounced Moytura). Here, fae of all types came together in one large army, and routed the fir bolgs, scattering them in harmless bands. The fae settled, and it came time to choose which of the noble courts would lead the fae.

After much voting and deliberation, it was decided that the kind and benevolent Seelie Court would be the faerie heads-of-state. These pleasent fae, patrons of song, dance, artwork, and the like ruled kindly, and the faeries flourished. In the mean time, through a long series of evolutions, the Fir Bolgs had become what is now known as the humans. Because of the embarassing defeat at Magh Tuiredh, the humans still held a grudge against the fae, and that's where the trouble started...

The Seelie Court

The sight of rolling green pastures bathed in eternal warmth welcomes you to the lands of the Seelie, a marked contrast from the dark and forbidding Unseelie territory. The golden ball of light guiding your way turns from the track into an ancient forest. The sky is of a strange orange colour, and through a golden haze you see the trees of Tir Na Nog. No sickness, blemish or deformity marks them, and tall oak trees reign in magisterial beauty in this evergreen forest. You strain your ears as you hear a sweet music, faint and lilting, yet ancient and full of joy. Laughter filters to you through the leaves, and shadows filt from tree to tree above. Occasionally a pointed ear or a flash of brown and green could be seen.

Introduction

The Seelie Court is made up of the nobles of the Fae, who are mostly benevolent, though unpredictable. They differ from their solitary Unseelie counterparts in their gaiety, laughter, and sense of fun, very much different from the Unseelie who enjoy, and reside, in dark humour (and that's not funny!)

The Seelie often enjoy playing pranks on the unwary and each other. Common going-ons include riddle and trivia contests, poetry writing, and many elaborate ceremonies. Pranks against denziens of the outside world as well as the occasional Unseelie Fae are often organized (in the new economy of the new millenium, we cannot be conventional).

The Seelie have a light-hearted sense of humour, and indulge in many games. The lands of the Seelie are perpetually bright with sunlight, filled with gay laughter and music. The mortal adventurer must always be wary of the nymphs, leprachauns, and the various Fae who reside within the land of Eternal Youth.
