Pictured above is Hoi Demo Team's newest member, and captain of our newly formed Illinois chapter, Larry “Blitz” Krieg.
The date was Friday, June 16th, 2006, the location Hoi Demo Team headquarters in Indianapolis. This was the setting for one of the biggest announcements in Hoi Demo Team's illustrious history. Brad "The Wizard of Hoi" Rode, President of the Hoi Demo Team empire, announced the following acquisition to a small press conference of mostly local media.
"It is with great pride and honor that I am here today to announce Hoi Demo Team has expanded its horizons. We have made one of the biggest acquisitions in team history by signing Larry "BLITZ" Krieg of Salem Illinois. Larry has not only been signed on as a team member, he has been appointed captain of Hoi Demo Team's Illinois chapter as well. This is the first step in achieving our ultimate goal of taking Hoi Demo Team to the national level. The decision to expand to Illinois wasn't a difficult one; we wanted to expand to a boarding state because logistically it just makes sense. Out of the four, at this point in time, we felt Illinois was most prepared for our arrival. We looked threw the hundreds of applications we received and Larry's stood out above the rest."
Aaron "The Duke of Hoi" Rode, Director of Team Operations, took the stage next to discuss the decision to choose Larry above the other applicants.
"I'd like to start by saying to all in attendance today that you’re witnessing something special. This is the begging of the golden age of Hoi Demo Team. When you look back and see some the high lights of Larry's career, they come to symbolize everything Hoi Demo Team stands for. I think I'm safe to say that all the members of the team were most impressed with the fact that he ran in a demo in 2005 when both his arms were broken. That shows a great love for the sport, and a drive and toughness that not many people have. All though Larry has only driven in demo's in 13 years he has been around the sport for 30 years. In that time he has qualified for roughly 40-45 features, has 14 feature top 5's and 2 feature wins coming in 1988 and 1991. These successes have come on a relatively low budget and at derby’s were he has been greatly outnumbered by rival teams. Another little known fact about Larry is that he was banned by one Midwest promoter for life for being "belligerent". While some would see that as a negative we at Hoi Demo Team view it in a positive light. To be the captain of a state Chapter you have to believe in what your doing and be willing to stand up for it no matter what the consequences may be. We look forward to a long and productive Partnership with the great Larry "Blitz" Krieg."
