Beetree Cave, Monroe County, Indiana

Back to Main

Beetree Cave is small cave located in Monroe County, Indiana, and is Jamie's favorite cave, just ask him (he *really* hated it!). The cave consists of only about 100' of passage. If your intent is to be a spraypainting fool, then you should really stay out as it is likely you will (a) have to be rescued or (b) die.

This cave has two entrances. The southernmost entrance is a steep 40' climbdown which can be quite slippery so a handline wouldn't be a bad idea, although it is not always a necessity. The northernmost entrance is a very short crawl which leads to a TIGHT crevice passage which abruptly ends at a 50' deep pit. This pit can be chimneyed with difficulty, but should not be done without the aid of a belay. For the more experienced caver, a cable ladder can also be used.

If you drop into the lower level of the cave, it can be VERY difficult to get back out. You may also encounter extremely loose breakdown in the lower component of the cave.

There are no formations or other pretties in Beetree cave. Unless you have at least a bit of vertical experience, it would be best to wait to enter this cave until you do.
