Geography

Diamonds were first found in India as early as 800 BC and were the sole producers until the 18th century. In the beginning of the eighteenth century gold miners discovered diamonds in Brazil. Diamonds found in Brazil and India were usually found in or near river beds. These diamonds were usually formed a long way away from where they are found. Over centuries they have been eroded from the kimberlite pipes and carried through water systems, such as rivers.
Today, the majority of diamonds are found in India, Brazil, Africa - Zaire, Botswana, South Aferica, Russia, Australia, Sierra Leone, and Canada.
