The following is meant to be a guideline
to assist Frees in choosing a profession. In this camp , Frees are expected
to do work and having a specific profession will ensure that the Frees
have work to do.Certain skills are expected in a Wagon Camp such as kaiila
riding and familairity with the bola and the lance.As well Free Men are
assumed to be Warriors no matter what Their profession may be , thus requiring
time in the sparring pit.
| Some skills such as singing, carving
or storytelling are not professions perse of a Wagon Camp but would add
character and flavour to Your roleplay.
For example it is common for a Warrior to sing as he swings His bola.This could be practised or incorporated into a character who sings for pleasure.Also keep in mind that specific skills may be learned from someone who has that skill.For example an Outrider could learn Weaponsmithing in His spare time from the Camps Weaponsmith. |
| Scouts
The light cavalry/scouts of the wagon camp.Outriders are the first line of defense of a wagon camp and are skilled at mounted combat.Their primary function is patrolling the perimeter of the Camp...whether stationary or on the move.Any visitor or raider must pass by the outriders before entering Camp. Primary chores : patrolling , care and feeding of personal kaiila , combat with invaders/predators Secondary chores: care of weapons , making weapons , drilling |
| Wrangler
A wagon camp almost lives on kaiila-back.Ones that train and care for the kaiila are vital to the camp's well being.The wrangler will assist Frees in choosing and training personal mounts as well as acting as the camp vet for treating sick or injured kaiila. Primary chores : training kaiila ,supervising care of kaiila , care of sick or injured kaiila , supervising breeding of kaiila Secondary chores : care of saddles , bits and bridles ; maintanance of the corral |

| Drover
The drover works with the herd , controlling it when the camp is on the move , maintianing it when the camp is at rest.The drover cares for the bosk as a vet tending to pregnant and nursing females , sick or injured animals.The drover will also train bosk to pull w agons or carry items. Primary chores : care of bosk , training animals , herding grazing animals Secondary chores : maintanance of the pen , supervising

| Tanner
The tanner ensures that the skins become leather and using His skill creates leather according to the needs of the camp.The tanner creates leather from the green hides of any animal though some may require more involved or secret techniques to p roperly tan. Primary chores : curing and tanning of green hides , finding items needed for tanning , skinning animals Secondary chores : maintanance of tools , creation of dyes |
| Leather Worker
Once the tanner has created the leather , it is often fashioned into items needed around the camp.This is the realm of the leather worker.Everything from thongs to clothing to whips are created by this craftsman. Primary chores : creation and repair of items , creation of secondary items , creation of custom or unique items Secondary chores : maintenance of tools , inspection of common items around camp |
| Hunter
The hunter seeks out game near the camp , supplimenting the larder with other types of food as well as providing pelts and hides.Secondary to the main duties , a hunter also serves as a scout to the outlying areas of the camp. Primary chores : hunting wild game , setting snares and traps Secondary chores : dressing carcasses , preparing pelts , maintenance of weapons/tools |
| Butcher
Harvesting the bosk is obviously an important task in a wagon camp.The butcher would be skilled at the slaughter and the dressing of animals.Coincidentally a butcher would be skilled in the use of the knife..and knowing where to stick it. Primary chores : slaughter and preparation of animals ,skinning of animals , cutting of carcasses into useable parts Secondary chores : creation of food items ie. sausages , maintenace of tools , judging quality of food items |
| Blacksmith
An essential maker of all things metal and repairs to these things.A difficult job for a nomadic camp as the availability of all raw materials are scarce. Primary chores : creation of common and custom metal items for Camp or trade , repair of items Secondary chores : acquisition of raw materials , maintenance of tools and forge. |
| Weaponsmith
A specialization of the blacksmith.The maker of weapons can also be specialized in the making of bows and arrows or hafted weapons or edged weapons.As with the Blacksmith , the acquisition or raw materials can be difficult. Primary chores : creation of weapons , specialization in weapons (bowyer , fletcher , swordsmith etc.), repair of weapons Secondary chores : acquisition of raw materials , creation of unique items , maintenance of tools and forge |
| Wagon/Wheelwright
Obviously a Wagon Camp needs those skilled in making and repairing wagons.Along with this is the maker of wheels.The wagom Peoples are proud of their wagons and may request customizations of Their wagons.Since wood is scarce on the Plains , acquiring raw materials can be problematic. Primary chores : building wagons and wheels , repairing or modifying wagons Secondary chores : acquiring raw materials , making paints and stains , maintaining tools |
| Torturer
The Wagon Peoples are famous (infamous) for the use of torturers.These artisans craft pain and have access to the tools necessary to making One's last moments agonizing and slow.Torture needs to be authorized by the Ubar and cannot be used at the torturers whim. Primary chores : torture and/or execution of prisoners , interrogation , medical knowledge Secondary chores : maintenance of tools , study of medical scrolls ,creation of new devices |
