The Amazon Nation

Welcome to the nation of the Amazons, the daughters of the war god Ares and the peace loving nymph Harmony. Some call us barbarians and some call us Man haters but we are civilized and men do have their purposes. With bow in hand, we are carving our path through history as a nation of warrior woman.

What is an Amazon?

We are warrior woman from the north, near the Caucasus. Though we are spread throughout the known world, our capitol city is Themiscyra. We live under a caste system and most of our culture is burried in mystery and rituals revolving around our patron goddess, Artemis the Huntress. We are hunters and warriors, protectors of the forest and it's creatures, killing only for food or for sacrifice.

What is the Caste structure of the Amazons?

Our ultimate leader is Artemis but we are ruled by a Queen. In our kingdom, our nation was divided when some chose to go to Troy and fight the Greeks. There, our Queen, Penthesilia, fell in battle, slain by Achilles. Two woman were rivals for her place at the head of the nation, the lady Delyla who was by rights the Queen's daughter and heir, and the warrior Ravenkai who fought by Penthesilia's side and was given her Caste of Rights when she died. Penthesilia forced Ravenkai to take an oath that she would not allow harm to come to Lady Delyla or to those who chose to stay behind with her. So it was when Ravenkai returned to Themiscyra to assume the throne, she and Lady Delyla entered into a pact to reunite the devided nation. Together they rule in Penthesilia's place. They are the ruling class. Below them is the warrior, followed by the spiritualist, artisian and healing classes, the working class and the servant class. In our society, no class is pariah or untouchable.

How do I become an Amazon?

There is only one way to become an Amazon if you were not born one. That is to receive the Right of Caste from an Amazon at the time of their death. An Amazon may willingly name you their successor or you may seek a Death Right challenge, a battle for the Right of Caste. You must make your request for the Death Right directly to the ruling class. They will subject you to a series of challenges before deciding if you are worthy of a chance for the Death Right.

What is the male's role in Amazon society?

Males have no place in the ruling class of Amazon society. Most males serve as concubines or mates. Though no male's are permitted to own land, many do till and maintain the fields of their Amazon mates. Amazon women have harems of men, most of whom are prisoners of war. Those men who are born into Amazon society are the only exceptions to these rules. An Amazon's son will inherit part of his mother's estate as a dowry for his wife. For this reason, it is profitable for powerful houses of the Amazon nation to unite through aranged marriages. Most male prisoners of war end up being killed for disobidiance but a surprising number of them find themselves enjoying their new found lives.

If you have any questions concerning the Amazon Nation, please email the Sister Queeen Ravenkai Any warrior woman interested in becoming an Amazon or in persuing a Death Right MUST contact one or both of the Sister Queens. Any male seeking to join the Sister Queen's private harems must audition. Any rich nations requiring conquering, Please notify the Amazon Nation immediately! We are always seeking to expand our treasury and our kingdom's borders.

What on earth is this all about?

When I first created my website back in 1997, I was going through a divorce. My therapy was spending time building this website and hanging out in various MUDs and chat rooms, mainly focusing on television and movies. This was at the peak of Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. I was a fan of Hercules and thus became a Xena watcher as well. I was in college and taking Archeology, Anthropology and Mythology classes at the time so it was great to log into a chatroom and discuss the deviations and reinterpretations of popular mythology. As you can imagine, I was pretty angry at men at the time and when the Amazon's were featured in the Herc/Xena realm, what started out as a forum discussion became a live action role play. By the end of the 'war', I was roaring with laughter. I had a friend over (and my first beer - Dundee's Honey Brown Lager *late bloomer*) who had also recently gone through a break up. The Amazon Nation page was born that night. I've had lot's of time to get over my ex and no longer 'hate' men. I don't love them much either but if the right one came along... I wonder what Joe Flanigan is up to?
