| articles so who the hell are they? |
... along with some stuff you don't, but I'm going to tell you anyway :)
Placebo are: Brian Molko (vocals and guitar), Stefan Olsdal (bass) and Steve Hewitt (drums). They've released two albums, 'Placebo' and 'Without You I'm Nothing'. On 'Placebo', Robert Schultzberg played drums; he was subsequently 'asked to leave'. Brian: was born on 10 December 1972, in either America or Belgium (I think Belgium, but I have seen both mentioned). He went to school in Luxembourg, where he met Stefan. They weren't exactly what you'd call close at that stage: Brian did drama, where he first discovered the delights of make-up, and Stefan played basketball. He and Stefan met up again in London, where Brian was studying drama at Goldsmith's College. Steve and Brian met at Burger King in Lewisham (Steve was going out with a girl Brian went to school with). He's also a Star Trek fan (he prefers the Next Generation). He cites as musical influences PJ Harvey, the Pixies, Joy Division, Sonic Youth, the Dead Kennedys and Billie Holliday. Stefan: was born on 31 March 1974, in Sweden. Apparently he was a bit of a teacher's pet at school, always anxious to impress, which I can emphasise with in a major way. He's probably 'the quiet one', although he does occasionally come out with something totally unexpected and outrageous, which is always worth it. He loves Abba, Depeche Mode and Metallica, shops at Ikea and has a fondness for toy instruments. He first appeared on TV at the age of 8 in a line-dancing segment (true!). Steve: was born on 22 March 1971, in Manchester. He has a daughter, Emily. Steve has previously been in the Boo Radleys, K-Klass, Sharkboy, Electric Crayons, Mystic Deckchairs and Breed. He played on the very early demos for 'Placebo' - then he left to tour Europe with Breed, supporting Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. He met up with Brian and Stefan again at the Phoenix Festival in 1997. To find out more, check out the pretty darned comprehensive FAQ @ The Brick Shithouse |
