Question # 3 If Rent had followed the story of La Boheme more closely, some things would have been different. Which of these things would NOT have happened?
Answer: (C) Benny would've had an affair with Mimi and Maureen
This one is tough. Most people probably know that Mimi dies in the end of La Boheme, and from the synopsis it's obvious that Musetta (Maureen) goes back to Marcello (Mark). This leaves two possible answers. In La Boheme, Colline (Collins) does not lose his coat at the beginning of the opera, but does, in fact, have to sell it at the end in order to buy some medicine for Mimi. (See the La Boheme Synopsis.) The last one is obviously false if you read the synopsis; Benoit (Benny) was never even friends with the bohemians, he is merely their landlord. (C) is the answer.
Question # 4 Which of these Christmas songs is NOT used in Rent?
Answer: (A) O Christmas Tree
"White Christmas" is used by the cops in "Christmas Bells," "Joy to the World" is used by Benny at the beginning of "You'll See Boys," and "O Little Town of Bethlehem" is used by Mark in "La Vie Boheme."
Question # 5 What does Maureen want to dress as to protest the ground breaking of the lot?
Answer: (B) a groundhog
From the Libretto (just before "Take Me or Leave Me):
Joanne: And the line is, "Cyberarts and its corporate sponsor, Grey Communications, would like to mitigate the Christmas Eve riots..." What is so difficult?
Maureen: It just doesn't roll of my tongue. I like my version.
Joanne: You -- dressed as a groundhog -- to protest the groundbreaking...
Maureen: It's a metaphor!
Joanne: It's...less than brilliant.
Question # 6 What's Mark's sister's name?
Answer: (A) Cindy
In "Voice Mail #1," Mark's mom says "Cindy and the kids are here, send their love." How do we know what relation Cindy has to Mark? We guessed, hoping you would guess too, at least since the name sounded familiar.
Question # 9 Who pays for Angel's funeral?
Answer: (B) Benny
From the Libretto, before "What You Own":
PASTOR: Off the premises now / We don't give handouts here!
MARK: What happened to "Rest In Peace"?
PASTOR: Off the premises, queer!
COLLINS: That's no way to send a boy to meet his maker! / They had to know we couldn't pay the undertaker.
BENNY: Don't you worry 'bout him. Hey, I'll take care of it!
(The PASTOR acknowledges BENNY and exits.)
