***Dispatch from Aaron J. Poehler, October 16, 2000: Well, it should be pretty apparent to anyone who's come to this page over the past few months that this page is pretty much dead as far as new updates. HOWEVER, the good news is that we finally have a functioning computer at home again, a much more up-to-date model than in the past: it's only, say, two or three years out of date rather than ten like the last one. So be patient; we have plans to get a brand-spankin' new Daisy Glaze site up as soon as we can do it right, with downloadable audio links and so on and blah blah blah. Right now it looks like it'll be on Homestead, as I've had better luck with their service than Angelfire, which I've often found frustrating and limiting. Plus those pop-up ads tick me off. I plan to leave this site up as record of our first attempt at a site, at least as long as Angelfire leaves it up and doesn't delete it. Anyway, when the new page is up I'll come back here and add a link to the new Daisy Glaze page. Thanks to all who've checked out the Angelfire Daisy Glaze Nation site, in the past and in the future; it was very educational for me and I learned a lot. 'Bye for now.
***Dispatch from Aaron J. Poehler, July 12, 2000: The Daisy Glaze mailing list has been suspended. My computer at home went down possibly for good with all the data on it. Sorry.
***Dispatch from Aaron J. Poehler, May 30, 2000: DRUMMER WANTED*** Well kids, looks like we're looking for a new drummer again. Part of the reason I haven't updated this page lately is because I haven't known what was going on myself to pass on to you. We played the WIUS show which went OK despite several disasters along the way, Kyle said he wanted to play some other shows, blah blah blah, then he stopped showing up for practice entirely. He blamed it on a new job but he cancelled practices even when he wasn't working, though he still claimed he wanted to keep going with the band--for all I know he may still be saying that. Not to mention the fact that he still managed to find time to go see Kiss something like five times (blech, how many times can you see the same shit over and over--even the Dead played different songs at each show) during the time he "didn't have time" to practice. Finally yesterday (Memorial Day) we had a practice set up because Kyle said Monday was best for him, John came down from Indy, and the three of us spent three or four hours waiting for Kyle. No sign of him, no call, no message, no nothing. "So tired, tired of waiting, tired of waiting for you..." So basically he's out of the band unless he's got a damn good reason, like he was dead in a ditch. So if you are a good drummer or know a good drummer in the Bloomington-Indy area, email me at apoehler@hotmail.com and we'll give you a shot. Right now I'm getting ready to make up some "drummer wanted" flyers to post around B-ton. Think I'll put one outside Kyle's house on the way home. Fortunately John & Carla & I haven't just been sitting around with our thumbs up our collective ass waiting for Kyle to get his shit together, and we've got something like four or five new tunes to work on. Plus the recording setup should be in place very soon. Guess it's better to cut the dead weight now.
***Dispatch from Aaron J. Poehler, April 5, 2000: Okay, I've been slacking with updating this , but it's only because so much stuff has been going on. We've been playing several times a week getting ready for our debut show at WIUS this Friday (April 7). It turns out Magical Attraction of Booty isn't a funk band (I assumed it was based on the name) but a "techno noise-rock" act (as self-described by a member in an email to me). Sounds more interesting. The show starts at 7, and you can all listen if you'd like by clicking over to WIUS via the link below--they have a webcast feed. Songs scheduled to be played include What Went Wrong, Game of Life, Roller Coaster, I'm So Bored With the USA, Young & Pure, Wild in Your Youth, You are what you do, Watch the Future, Blues From A Gun, Holidays In the Sun, Pristine Isolation, Chinese Rocks, and Where Eagles Dare if we have the time. Tonight the whole band is heading over to D'Buzz to get our hair done, which I'm looking forward to because my mane is driving me nuts. Also I recently finished editing together the first episode of Daisy Glaze Nation TV to feature John & Kyle, and we have synced live footage for several more episodes already in the can, plus tonight we're getting the Digital-8 camera again and plan to tape our hair appointments and rehearsal. The WIUS show should also be videotaped for future broadcast on CATS3, so watch the future for that. Anyway, I gotta go, cause obviously I'm way too damn busy. Oh yeah, plus my article on Del Close just came out in the last issue of EYE magazine. Buy it while you can.
***Dispatch from Aaron J. Poehler, March 15, 2000: We had sessions both Monday and Tuesday nights and got a lot of good work done. We've continued recording with the DAT and we're getting some good rehearsal tapes even if we don't end using them for anything else. We started playing a new song I wrote last week called "Watch the Future" that seems to be coming together quickly; I think it's one of the strongest numbers already and we've probably only played it six or seven times. Last night we blasted out the Pistols' "Holidays in the Sun" and it sounded pretty good considering we didn't work out how to play it beforehand, so it's likely we'll work it up for the regular set. We also played a song of mine called "Game of Life" that regular DGN TV viewers probably know that we've never tried electric before; I just started playing it out of nowhere and John and Kyle picked right up on it. Things are going well musically; that's better than having a car any day. Having a car would still be a plus, though.
***Dispatch from Aaron J. Poehler, March 13, 2000: Despite the setback we suffered recently (see below) Daisy Glaze continues to forge ahead as best we can. We taped our first recorded session with the new electric lineup last Friday, playing a variety of tunes both original and pilfered from the repetoires of others (i.e. "covers"); the music was recorded straight to two-track DAT, while the video was shot on the relatively new Digital8 system, thanks to CATS3, and the footage looks great (a welcome upgrade from the VHS footage that went into the first 40-something episodes of DGN TV). Things were a little rough overall (I kept breaking guitar strings, for one thing) but for the first time playing with the tape running the results were decent: we did a fairly good version of "I'm So Bored With the USA" by the Clash, and at least a couple of other things will likely pop up on upcoming episodes of Daisy Glaze Nation TV.
Speaking of DGN TV, local viewers should not be unduly disturbed if they tune in to CATS3 Thursday nights at 11 and find that DGN TV is not airing in its regular time slot. Michael White, head honcho at CATS3, recently informed us that he's temporarily pulling the show from its regular timeslot until we produce six more episodes, at which time the show will return to regular weekly broadcasts. So don't freak.
Lastly, WIUS has updated its Bloomington Vibes schedule page to include the Daisy Glaze booking on April 7--apparently we're playing with a band called Magical Attraction of Booty, about which I know nothing (based on the name, I'd guess they're a funk band, though). There's a link below to the main WIUS page, but here's a link directly to the BVibes page.
***Dispatch from Aaron J. Poehler, March 6, 2000: WE GET ALONG LIKE A VAN ON FIRE
Near-future Daisy Glaze plans were dealt a setback late on Thursday, March 2 when the van owned by Aaron and Carla Poehler went up in flames. We were on our way to see a local band play and the engine wouldn't turn over; when we got out and looked, the entire interior under the hood was ablaze. Fortunately the fire dept. came quickly (thanx guys), the fire was prevented from spreading, and nobody was hurt; however, the van was utterly destroyed. We will still be playing at WIUS on April 7 (see below); however, further live performance plans will have to wait until the transportation situation gets resolved. Donations anyone?
***Dispatch from Aaron J. Poehler, March 2, 2000: The latest: we've continued to play regularly with the new electric DG lineup and things are looking (and sounding) good. Songs we've been playing include originals "What Went Wrong", "Wild In Your Youth", "Pristine Isolation", "You are what you do", and covers "Roller Coaster", "Blues From A Gun", and "Chinese Rocks". Not only are John and Kyle the best instrumentalists we've played with in some time but they're easygoing and fun to be around, which is a real plus. In fact, we're planning on debuting the new electric Daisy Glaze on Friday, April 7, 2000, for a live broadcast on WIUS radio's Bloomington Vibes. Bloomington residents: come see the show! It's free! The rest of you: listen to the broadcast over the net--WIUS netcasts, so you should be able to hear it on your computer! (Click here to link to the WIUS website)
***Dispatch from Aaron J. Poehler, February 7, 2000: So...what's new with Daisy Glaze? It's been awhile since this page was updated, so I'll fill you in up to date. We're currently playing with a new bassist and drummer, reactivating the live electric rock aspect of the band for the first time in awhile. It's all still in the preliminary stages, so we'll see how it pans out over the long term, but there's more chemistry going on right now than any recent electric lineup within memory. Hopefully it'll last, at least until we get the recording equipment we have the money mostly saved up for.
We finally got our DAT recorder back from the Sony repair facility after far too long without it. If you've been watching DAISY GLAZE NATION regularly you've probably noticed that none of the sessions for it were recorded recently, and this is why--no DAT, no recordings. I guess Sony expects the analog output of the unit to burn itself out every two years or so, which might have been nice to know before it happened, but c'est la vie. It's back now, and we will be doing some new recordings of some new songs for DGN TV very soon. Hopefully we can intersperse them with some new electric rock too, but I hesitate to make promises right now since we've only played with this new 'rock' lineup twice so far. It feels really good, though...
