"The sky turned purple and the sun disappeared between two very dark clouds. Birds dropped from the air, dead. Their corpses appeared to be steaming. Farlow and several of the townspeople looked down at themselves, clenching and unclenching their fists. They seemed to be alive still, and all the buildings were in place. The ships in harbor had not moved, and the ground still felt the same. But the atmosphere felt wrong, from the odd smell of the place to the dark sky above. Something was amiss."
