WWF : A BRIEF HISTORY

As the NWA champion, Buddy Rogers' bookings were controlled by Toots Mondt, promoter in the Northeast. The other NWA promoters were dissatisfied because Mondt rarely let Rogers defend the belt outside the Northeast. Mondt and Vince McMahon Sr. wanted to manage Rogers and the NWA title, but Rogers didn't want to lose his $25,000 deposit on the belt. So Rogers lost the NWA title to Lou Thesz in Toronto on January 24, 1963.

The WWF, then known as WWWF(WorldWide Wrestling Federation) was started in 1960's by Vince McMahon's father (Vince McMahon Sr.), who broke away from NWA. WWWF , and their style of wrestling was much different than the attitude style of today. The World Wrestling Federation at that time was using hardly any gimmicks at all. back then, it was easy as pie to get your wrestler over. There were no high flyers, no weired people, goofy characters like the World Wrestling Federation of today, there were just normal guys in serious matches. But in the early 1980's, the federation was bought by Vince McMahon Jr.,(from his father) and all that changed.   From that point on, pro-wrestling changed, forever, for the better and worse. The World Wrestling Federation was selling out shows like fire spreads. The World Wrestling Federation was HOT, HOT, HOT! He brought the "attitude" into the WWF. Along with Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant he took pro-wrestling to heights it had not seen before. Hulk Hogan was gearing up to take on Andre the Giant, and the WWF was gearing up to make millions.

Now looking at the present World Wrestling Federation is still hot, it is the thing for youngsters. The WWF superstars are the ultimate role model for not only kids but also for adults and its not limited to one country: It is spreading like...The TV ratings show that the most watched TV shows are those concerning pro-wrestling and it is getting "hotter than hell" each and every day !! Kudos to the World Wrestling Federation.

THE NAME CHANGE :

The name change took place in 1979. The change was purely a cosmetic one. Ownership and front office personnel remained unaffected. About this same time, the WWF phased out their North American title and replaced it with what is today known as the Intercontinental title.
