OFFICIAL COMMENTS FROM WWF.COM:
We at the World Wrestling Federation are sad to report the death of Owen Hart. He was 34 years old. We do not have much information as to how it happened and will not know until an investigation is completed. We are all shaken, and to say Owen will be missed is too limiting of a way to fully explain what he meant to us.
The sadness of his death as a father, brother, son and uncle were certain is very deep and strongly felt. He was, and is, beloved by them and by all of us who were fortunate enough to work with him at the World Wrestling Federation.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Owen's wife Martha, his two children, as well as the entire Hart family.
We have to be strong for Owen; he was an extraordinary human being and consummate performer. The highest tribute that we can pay is to go on entertaining the fans he loved so much.
Well carry his love for his family and friends and the passion he put in to his work forever.

came across this lads,
so sad its sickning
I'll be absolutely honest and tell you that I'm at a loss for words.
In what will go down as one of the great, and unecessary tragedies in the history of wrestling, Owen Hart was killed as he was set to make an entrance as The Blue Blazer at the WWF OVER THE EDGE PPV.
Details are sketchy, but Hart was scheduled to drop from the ceiling in character to take on The Godfather in an IC Title match. Something went terribly wrong with his harness and Owen fell, headfirst, down into the ring from 85 feet.
At the time, the crowd's attention was focussed on the screens carrying a pre-match interview.
Rich in KC, was at the arena and called with a description of the horrifying scene that the PPV cameras did not broadcast. Owen Hart fell to the ring with a horrible thud. As he lay in the ring unconscious, paramedics immediately attended to him. CPR and a portable difribrilator were administered in trying to revive Hart, but the injuries were too great.
Owen was pronounced dead on arrival at Truman Hospital. Official cause appears to be a broken neck.
How many different ways can I write my heart and prayers go out to family and friends? Though I mean them each and every time I'm forced to write them, the words lose their power after a while. But my grief over this runs vey deep. The loss of such a talented individual, not to mention a truly good and decent human being under these circumastances hurts.
I've been a fan of Owen's for some time. His name usually tops my list when I talk about underutilized, underappreciated superstars. He was one man I always wanted to speak with, but understood his wishes when he explained that his time out of the ring was for his family, without talk of wrestling. I respected what his wife and kids meant to him, especially considering the demanding schedle of a WWF career.
Owen just celebrated his 33rd birthday last month.
He began his career, as his brothers did, in Calgary. He captured his first title in the Stampede organization in 1987, and first steppd into a WWF ring as the Blue Blazer one year later. Over the years he's had some amazing matches in Japan, most notably against Jushin Lyger, and captured the USWA Unified Title in 1993, as well as the WWF tag title with Yokozuna in 1995, and most recently with Jeff Jarrett this year. He was also the King of the Ring in 1994 after beating Razor Ramon, and created his "King of Hearts" persona.
No one could predict something like this. Nobody could deserve this kind of fate. Even to think of a wrestler losing their life while in ring action, as has happened in the past, has had a certain dignity to it. Going out while doing something you love. This death makes no sense. It was an accident, and a loss for everyone.
God rest your soul Owen.

I Have just heard from a reliable source that Owen Hart has died. Apparently he was to enter from the arena ceiling and drop down into the ring in his blue blazer outfit for his match against the Godfather. While he was practicing his entry he supposidly fell from a long way up and died. Now I am pretty sure this is correct, but it may be someone pulling a cruel prank. Just though you all would like to know. Here is an official post:
Owen Hart - 1966-1999

It was just reported straight from Jim Ross's mouth during the
WWF pay-per-view that Owen Hart died in a tragic accident making
his ring entrance for his match tonight against the Godfather.
Apparently Owen was supposed to be lowered from the ceiling and a
problem with the harness caused him to fall from a great distance
above the ring. No further information is available at this time
as no footage of this tragedy was shown.
We here at PWBTS give our condolences and our prayers to the Hart family in this very trying moment in their lives.
A phone call to Truman Medical Center in Kansas City netted no information on Owen as they could not give out any information pending notification of next of kin.

| This is SO not what I need these days. After everything I've been through this has to happen. Normally, I probaly wouldn't have reacted the way I did but this is the way I am. The only reason I am is because he's a Hart. You see, Bret is like a dad to me[personal]. He's the father figure I never had. The Hart's were like my family role models. And Owen's gone now! |
