About Me

Luke and Jessica This is a photo of my real horse Northern Exposure, aka Luke, and I showing at the Windy City Classic held at Sweet Charity Farms in Carmel, Indiana back in 1999. It was an A2 show and Luke and I won a 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 8th in hunter and equitation classes. Luke and I are showing again this season and we won the Intermediate Equitation Championship at the March Sweet Charity Winter Classic. We will be showing whenever we get a chance this summer, but probably not too much since the barn isn't going to a lot of Indiana shows.

Me in a Nutshell

I'm 18 and I live in Indianapolis, Indiana. I will be attending Purdue University next fall, probably double majoring in Political Science and Journalism. I am also going to start taking Russian language classes and plan to study abroad (hopefully in Moscow) at some point in time. I horseback ride a lot and own a horse which you saw at the top of the page. Suprisingly, horseback riding is NOT big in Indy so when I show I have minimal competition unless it's at maybe one of the few A shows held around town.

In 2001, I started volunteering at a local therapeutic riding center and fell in love with it. The two instructors thought that I would make a good instructor so I started student teaching in 2002 and just passed my NARHA certified instructor exam in 2003. I teach two days a week, work as horse show manager, and helped run four weeks of horse camp in June.

Aside from riding I absolutely love ice hockey. Nope, I don't play it, just watch. I don't know what it is about hockey but it just sucks me in and fascinates me. My favorite team is the Penguins. They were on TV a bunch in 2001 since Mario Lemieux came back and I just fell in love with them. Especially with Johan Hedberg (aka The Moose) and Alexi Kovalev (who is, unfortunately, now a New York Ranger). The 2002-2003 season started out surprisingly well, but went downhill after a couple months and they began salary dumping trades in February. They have a lot of promising young talent and they should be a decent team again when the young players begin to really develop in a few years. Though the Penguins are my absolute favorite team, I do have a few other teams I cheer for, especially during the playoffs. The Toronto Maple Leafs and Chicago Blackhawks are my two other main favorites but I also like the Vancouver Canucks, Anaheim Mighty Ducks, and Colorado Avalanche.

In addition to riding and being a rabid hockey fan, I do have a few other things I like to do. This year I actually got into basketball and went to at least 10 Pacers games. The season started out great, but got quite frustrating in the second half and the playoffs (though actually being there when they won Game 5 against Boston was great). I also listen to a lot of music, the favorite bands change often but some constant favorites include Matthew Good Band, Radiohead, The Tragically Hip, John Mellencamp, Tori Amos, U2, and Ben Folds. I've become somewhat of a traditional artist after two semesters of drawing during my junior year and a year of AP art and a semester of photography during my senior year.
