What to do in Indy (when you're not doing the Feis).

Right Downtown

The downtown Circle Centre Mall is open for shopping after the Feis and on Sunday.  It's within walking distance of the Feis and has many good restaurants you might want to consider for lunch.

Victory Field, home to the Indianapolis Indians minor league baseball team, is within walking distance of the Feis.

The Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art is in downtown Indianapolis next to the Courtyard by Marriott.

The Indianapolis Zoo is just outside of the Indianapolis downtown area.  You can get there by driving West on Washington Street or walking over the pedestrian bridge behind the Courtyard by Marriott.  Next to the zoo are the White River Gardens.  The gardens are a charming place to stroll in good weather.

The Indiana State Museum and its I-Max 3D theater are right by the Eiteljorg and the zoo.  It is an easy walk from anywhere downtown.

Walk through White River State Park with it's many attractions.  White River State Park is Indiana's only urban state park and it is within walking distance of the feis.  The Indiana State Museum, Eiteljorg and I-Max are part of the state park.  Stop in at the old pumphouse, converted to a visitors center, for a good overview of the park.

On a warm Saturday night or Sunday afternoon, take a stroll along the Indianapolis Canal Walk.  Along the downtown canal is the Indiana State Museum, the NCAA Hall of Champions, the National Institute for Fitness and Sports, the Congressional Medal of Honor Memorial and the Indiana Historical Society, with seating for it's Stardust Cafe outdoors along the water.  At the North end of the Canal Walk is a memorial to the USS Indianapolis, one of the last ships sunk in World War II, with heavy loss of life.

A little farther north, but also downtown, are the World War Memorial and the Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument on Monument Circle.  Both memorials have excellent military museums associated with them. Click here for the details of all the memorials in and around downtown Indy.

A Little Bit of a Drive

The Indianapolis Children's Museum is the world's largest children's museum and will be open Sunday after the Feis.  It is three miles north of downtown up Illinois Street.

The Indianapolis Museum of Art has been recently renovated and expanded.  It is just four miles away up Martin Luther King at West 38th street.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum is on West 16th street and features historic race cars and memorabilia from the Speedway.
