The Dorthy Chapman Fuqua Conservatory

In 1987 Atlanta businessman J. B. Fuqua made a magnificent gift to the Garden of a glass conservatory to house rare and endangered plants. The gift was in honor of his wife Dorothy, an avid gardener and member of the Garden's Board of Trustees. In March 1989, 20,000 visitors attended the grand opening of the Dorothy Chapman Fuqua Conservatory. It was a day that significantly raised the stature of the Garden among both visitors and the horticultural community.

The momentum fueled by the opening of the Conservatory was matched by expansion outdoors. New landscaped gardens surrounding the buildings were created. Fifteen acres of woodland and many new demonstration gardens were integrated into the Garden. And we're still growing. Like every garden, the Atlanta Botanical Garden will constantly change and improve and dazzle. It's only natural.

Visitors to the Fuqua Conservatory can take a 30-minute audio tour in English, Spanish, French, German or Japanese. The tapes rent for $2, along with a portable cassette player.
