Where Are All The Movie-Based Games?

The one group of games that seemed to have never run out is the movie-based games, but now in 1997 there is a tremendous lack of movie-based games. So far, the Nintendo 64 has only received one game: GoldenEye, which I might add is an excellent game. Game Boy only received two games: The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Hercules. Game Boy will also receive one more game before the year is up: The Lost World: Jurassic Park. The Super NES has had none and will get none (as far as I know) in the future. Remember, the Super NES is a dying system. The last few games that the system will get will probably be a few "series" action games and sports games. The last Super NES movie-based game was Casper. It was released in December 1996.

What will you have to look forward to, from this genre?

  • James Bond 007 [By Nintendo & Rare | Super Game Boy | February 1, 1998]
  • Mission: Impossible [By Ocean | Nintendo 64 | March 1998]
  • Quest For Camelot [By Titus | Game Boy | Summer 1998]
  • Quest For Camelot [By Titus | Nintendo 64 | 1998]

As you can see, there aren't many. Keep in mind that all of these dates are for North America. Japan may get these games earlier and Europe & Australia may get them later.

James Bond 007 will be an overhead action/adventure game. Mission: Impossible will be a 3-D action/adventure game. Quest For Camelot (for Game Boy) will be an overhead adventure game (like Zelda). I have not seen any pictures of the Nintendo 64 version, so I can't say what type of game it is. (It might be a 3-D game, since that's the direction most games are going.)
