A Premier Information Service Organisation

Indian National Scientific Documentation Centre (INSDOC), an establishment of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, is a premier organisation in information science, technology, services and systems in India. It is a national laboratory set up by an Act of Parliament in 1952 for providing information and documentation services both at the national and the international level.

Wide dissemination of S & T information being an important aim of INSDOC, it has a network of regional centres located at Chennai, Bangalore and Calcutta to provide information services in these regions also.

INSDOC's competency areas include library automation, CD-ROM networking, databases design, multimedia information management, wide area networking, library management, abstracting and indexing, electronic libraries, online access systems, informetrics, education and training in information science & technology and electronic publishing.

INSDOC is the national member of the International Federation for Information and Documentation (FID) from India and has been actively involved in the FID activities since 1952. INSDOC hosted 49th FID Conference and Congress held in New Delhi during 11-17 October 1998. The headquarters for FID commission for Asia and Oceania is located at INSDOC since January 1996.
