Vehemenently Verizon: A Quest in Incompetence

Well kids, it's been a few months now since the GTE Verizon merger and we've seen some smoke. We've lived through a dozen commercials for how convienent Verizon wireless will make our lives. Being a Purdue student, I am flooded with commercialism from the moment I park my car. One of the first things I see posted is a large Verizon sign hung from my stadium. I see "Verizon" printed on every single schedule card for my football team. On my form to confirm my classes, a large advertisement for Verizon greeted my eyes. Being off-campus this year, I figured this might be the way to go. There are no other high speed internet means availiable to off-campus students (no cable modem) and thus I chose Verizon ADSL.

I made a mistake. My first problem was that the average turnaround time from order to reception of ADSL parts was about a month. Fine. I can wait and use dialup. I wait a month and it's still not here. I call and it turns out they shipped it four days after the quoted date. Fine. Shit happens right? Besides, poor babies just had a strike (insert collective "awwwwww" here for just how cute Verizon is)and they need their beauty sleep. I get my equipment two days after the service was supposed to start. I hook everything up in a frenzy, anticipating the raw bandwidth I am about to consume. I notice that there isn't an install disk or any sort of information on how to modify my setting to make it work. Fine. I call Verizon and tell them. "Oh, well we don't even have a circuit in the office for your modem to work, so even if you had the disk you couldn't get online."

THAT was the last straw. I sign a one year contract and all I get is shit. I try to work with what I have, and it turns out to be a complete farce. You know what really irks me? That my own SCHOOL, Purdue University, had the cojontes to recommend an inferior product to me. I know probbaly what you are all thinking, "Hey schmuck, it's the real world. Get a life." To a certain extent I agree. I mean, I really wish I could put up with all the garbage that most people do and just take it... but I can't. And that, Verizon, is why I am calling the Better Business Bureau and reporting your terrible abuse. Have fun kids!
