I first noticed that I could draw something pretty decent when I was about 14, in 1985-86. It happened one afternoon, out of the blue. I had a comic book of The Famous Five by Enid Blyton, and I was taken with the picture of George (she was my favourite). I felt like sketching her face. That is one of my first big sketches, and it's here on this site. I was surprised and thrilled at the result--it was quite like the original.

I had been drawing and painting from when I was tiny. Really! I won a consolation prize (a medal) for painting when I was three :-) (and that was it--no more) Later I began to copy drawings from storybooks, comics, and make some from imagination.

Once when I was in Class 6 or 7, we had an exhibition of Russian books in school and I bought a storybook that had pencil-sketch illustrations. I picked up my drawing pad when I got home and sketched one of these illustrations. This is when the Art Fever bug truly bit me--hard! I realised I could draw! I showed the sketch to my parents who were also pleasantly surprised. I proceeded to draw several of those illustrations (many of which are here). I began oil painting too after a few months.

When I changed schools after Class 8, it was a new atmosphere and somehow the fever reduced and I cooled off of art for a while. (I took to writing instead, and that fever caught on from there and has never stopped.)

Recently, about fourteen years since my Art Fever days, I happily discovered an Art school that didn't require me to enroll for years and get a degree. I joined the 3-month course, more to get back into the habit of drawing/painting than for anything else but secretly hoping to learn something too. I have learnt some useful things, and also got back the habit and some of the fever again, in a more permanent kind of way.

Now I do the things I love best--writing, and art. Life's a picnic!

Thanks for listening, and I know you must be wondering where in Cyberheaven "Some of my artwork..." is.
