THOUGHTS…….

Phew, whatta relief!

My exams have come to a long-awaited close. I’m glad I’m done with them. Not that I hate school (well….) but these so-called ‘tests of knowledge’ (yeah, right.) give me the jitters. I get so frustrated and unhinged by the very thought of giving an exam the very next day that I practically have to force myself to get into bed and sing myself to sleep. And, to add to the agony, the teachers are so irritatingly saccharine while talking about how easy the upcoming exams are going to be! On the morning of the dreaded exam, I enter the Alma Mater only to be greeted by a horde of fellow-mates feverishly browsing through the notes and guide-books at the last minute. After all, it is one of the oldest practices in the book, before the exam. I join them, although rather unwillingly. My nervousness gets the better of me and I shut the book. Of course, there are the ‘panic-spreaders’ of the class- the ones who press the panic button, by asking you the definition of a word you have never heard of before or a question you don’t know the answer to. They further increase the impact of the blow by emphasizing on the fact that it is a sure question for the exam. What could be more unnerving? Much, much more. This is just the beginning. Then, another thoughtful friend suddenly slaps her forehead and exclaims, " Oh, I forgot! That part on Mitosis and Meiosis has been deleted from the portion. My friend told me her teacha’ had told them not to study the stuff." WHAT!?! You mean I spent the entire night learning some trash about Prophase, Anaphase, Telophase…for nought !?! No! This can’t be happening! I console myself by saying that it has, after all, added to my knowledge of biology. Hah! I hope that’s the end of it. Wait…there’s more to come. All of a sudden, Dawn starts screaming and tearing her hair. Naturally astonished, I ask her the matter. She tells me that’s just a way of relieving stress. Oh, God help her. Just then, the teacher enters and after taking our roll, instructs us to proceed to our respective examination ‘hells’ (halls). We oblige and soon, I find myself biting fingernails ( mine, mind you.) and fidgeting. The invigilator hands out the question papers and we write and write and write…. The invigilator advises us that instead of mugging up all this crap, we should rely on a "spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings." Easy for her to say- she’s isn’t writing the exam. I soon finish writing my answers and check twice. After a while, the bell rings and we move out of the class in a single file. I can feel the excitement and anxiety in the air. Everyone wants to discuss the answers. No way! I’m outta here! Count me out! What, do you really want me to suffer another of those nervous breakdowns? Anyway, the rest, as they say, is history. Now, let’s all hope that the results are something to be proud of- else, I’M H-I-S-T-O-R-Y!!!!
