Tanthalas Half-Elven
Tanis was born half elven as a result of his mother being raped by human savages.Shortly after his his birth,his mother died because of dispair,and exhaustion.During her pregnancy,she ate and drank only enough to sustain the child growing within her.
The speaker,Solostaran,felt that being his nephew,he had some responsibility,and therefore had Tanis live with the Royal Family.One would think that being in the Royal family would make one's life easier,unfortunatly,such was not the case.Since his father was human,and has mother elven,
he was half of both,and for that trait he was despised,disliked,critisized easily by others,especially,Porthios,his older cousin,and heir to the Throne of the Speaker of the Sun.Tanis suppressed this and was moody and quiet,and kept to himself.His younger cousin,Lauralanthalasa,however took to those traits
that others found disgusting.To the speakers mild dislike,the two were good childhood companions,as well as the speakers younger son,Laurana's older brother,Gilthanas.The friendship with Gilthanas,however was cut off as they both grew.And so the years passed,and Tanis grew into a quiet troubled youth.(As elven years go.....)
Solostaran,had had Qualinost closed to all other races besides the Qualinesti elves,and no other race had been inside the beautiful city since the last Dragon Wars.However,Solostaran discovered some beautifully made metal products,made by a dwarf,and so sent for him.
The surprised Dwarf came at the behest of the Speaker and discovered the beautiful city,he also learned quite a bit too.But the Dwarf,Flint Fireforge,became close friends with the Speaker,and dazzled him with wonderfully made metal works.The children of the city loved him too,for all his grumbling,and every two weeks or so
he came to the market square and gave away little toys carved of wood.While going about his business,he noticed Tanis who always accompanied Laurana to get Flint's free toys,but always stayed in the shade of a tree,and by himself.As the days and weeks passed by,Flint started warming towards the youth and one weekend,after every child
had gone off to play with their new toys,Flint approached Tanis and gave him a gift of his own.Slowly the two become friends,and Tanis began to spend more and more time with the Grumbling Dwarf.
Soon after the two become friends,they immediatly started to share dangers of immense proportions together.After their first tragedy in Qualinost, Flint,before leaving on his regular trip away from Qualinost and into the outside world,Flint invited Tanis to join him.Tanis always had liked adventures,and he longed to see the world outside Qualinost.
And so,he left his troubled childhood behind,and went on the road with Flint.
Each year,Flint left Qualinost in the Autumn,and returned in mid-spring.When Flint was not living in Qualinost,his home was in the townshipof Solace,known for the famed Inn Of The Last Home,and the barkeeper's delicious spiced potatoes.
Here,Tanis went with Flint.Tanis,however,went back to Qualinost every summer,much to Flint's dislike.
One summer,while travelling back from Qualinost to Solace,he walked into a battle.Three Goblin's faced one human female.Seeing this Tanis jumped into the fray,and killed the goblin's and saved the woman,or so he thought,when the woman yelled at him for "ruining her fun".The two got to know each other and became lovers,and good friends,for the time.Her name was Kitiara Uth Matar.
It turned out that she,too,was from Solace,and the two headed back together.Upon arriving back in Solace,Kitiara visited her twin brothers,Caramon,a well muscled youth with great strength and size,and Raistlin,a rather seemingly frail young man.But his frailty was only in has body,his mind was as strong as Caramon's muscles,if not stronger.The twins also had seen Flint,and knew him fairly well,however not personally,but
since Tanis was a close friend to Kitiara and To Flint they all slowly got to know each other.A friend of Caramon and Raistlin was a stout young man,seemingly almost like a knight of Solamnia,and being close friends with Caramon and his brother,Sturm,was welcomed by Flint to took up trainig the young men in battle training whenever he had the time.Every year Flint took his wares to a fair(usually in Haven),and one year he was followed by a kender!The kender,Tasslehoff Burrfoot,had attempted to treat himself to Flint's ware's but the experienced Dwarf caught him,and to the Dwarf's Dismay and terror,the Kender stayed with him and continued to travel with him,and literally followed him home,where he eventually moved in.So,a group was formed and they had their own trials together.One including Helping Raistlin unmask a fake cleric claiming to be the high priestess of the God Belzor.And many others.
After being together for at least two years,and meeting at the Inn of the Last Home for The Twin's Birthday's,the 6 decided that they would split up to persue facts that proved existance of the True Gods and the "new evil"supposedly slowly taking over the land.Kit would look for her father in the Solamnic region,Raistlin was invited to take The fabled Test in the Tower of High Sorcery in Wayreth,and so too would Caramon go,although it was kept secret until the FIVE met again.Flint decided to search for signs in the Dwarven stronghold of Thorbardin and Pax Tharkas and even his first home,Hillhome.Sturm planned to join Kitiara,for their paths were similar
in that it took them both to Solamnia.Tas,being a Kender,would certainly find something to keep him occupied,but fianlly decided to Head towards Kendermore and Hylo to find some family(no one believed this of course).
And so,the 6 agreed to go their seperate ways,and would then again in five years meet back in the Inn of the Last Home.It was a solemn oath that they all took.
The next day,they all went their seperate ways,except Tanis.He had no idea what he would do for his five years.Go back to Qualinost?And discover what?
He sat glumly at the bar in the Inn of the Last Home.He was then approached by a unique person which led to a most amazing adventure.(Tanis-The Shadow years-PreludesII/vol III)
The man told Tanis that he was looking for him and needed him to meet someone.Upon the way to meet the person the two were caught in a forest-fire.They find the man they were looking for,or rather,the man who needed Tanis,and after learning the man's story goes back into the old man's memory
to save the memory of his old love.Tanis completes his journey through the dying mage's memory,and the memory is kept alive.
What Tanis did for the rest of his five years is unknown to me,but he did meet with rest of the six five years later in the Inn of the Last Home.
The five years had ended.It had been 5 autmns since the group of close friends made their oaths to reunite this day in the inn of the last home.Tanis was finally walking towards Solace.He met Flint on the path,and they were soon accompanied by Tasselhoff.As the three had their hugs etc they were approached by Goblins and one Fewmaster Toede,who was looking for a blue staff.When the three admitted that they didn't have it the Hobgoblin ordered his troops to kill Flint,Tanis and Tas.The battle was quickly over,but it had them wondering about the rumours of war.They made their way to the Inn Of The Last Home where they found the great hulking Caramon and the frail Raistlin.Caramon crushed his friends in huge hugs but Raistlin stayed in the shadows.Tanis soon found why as he observed that Raistlin's skin was turned golden and his eyes were changed to the shapes of hourglasses and he coughed alot.As they conversed,Tanis was given a package by Tika Waylan(they all knew the barmaid well)saying that Kitiara would not be able to attend the reunion because her lord could not have her missing.Tanis was grieved at this but put it to the back of his mind as the companions saw Sturm Brightblade enter,but not alone.Sturm helped a Plainsman and woman into the inn with the politness and honor that he believed in.After escorting them to a table he rejoined his companions.When asked about Kitiara(for they were assumed to travel together)he knew nothing much after they split up.They began to discuss many topics.Especially of the new religion controlling the town known as The Seekers.Unfortunatly,the high priest of the Seekers was in attendance that night unbeknownst to the companions.An old man was telling stories of the "true gods" to a young lad who was eager to listen.The old man turned to the Plainswoman and addressed her by name asking her to sing a song for the child.Awestruck,she did.Her song mentioned Paladine,and the Blue Staff,and when she ended the Seeker Priest called out for gaurds to arrest the Plainswoman,the Plainsman,and Sturm who stepped between the priest when he attempted to grab at the woman's staff.He went shreiking from the bar,and the other civilians were obviously very angry.Tika issued them all out the back exit(being a forty foot drop)She told them to go to her house and wait there.Tanis went down the rope first(for that was the only way to get down from the large vallenwood)Each followed suit,except Raistlin,who decided to float by means of his magic.They reached Tika's home and waited.Tanis was the first to start with plans.It was obvious that the plainsmen were very distrustful of the interracial group.Gaurds burst into Tika's home and the compainiions were forced to fight.Caramon easily knocked them out,and Tanis led they way out.He had decided that the best place to go was on the far side of Crystalmir Lake,and they followed him.
