"KIDDO"

PROLOGUE

"Are you all right, kiddo? You're not hurt, are you?" came the thoughtful question from Det. Gatti. "No, I'm not hurt. I'm fine" answered Angie Ramirez, who wasn't hurt just embarrassed at having to be helped up from the concrete after falling face first. "ANGIE!! What happened?! Are you OK!??!" Rollie Tyler questioned her as he came running. Tyler as usual was helping his friends in the NYPD and as usual asked Angie to come along and help him. Usually she was regulated to the F/X van that was not in plain sight but this time she was needed in a building that unfortunately was the target of the NYPD. And unfortunately she was in it when it was raided and demolished. "Angie!! Are you OK?? Are you hurt?" asked Det. Sanchez. "NO!! I AM FINE!!!!" snapped Angie.

"I knew it. I knew I should have left you back in the van!! Next time, you aren't going to talk me out of it!!" Rollie yelled at his young assistant. "You could have been killed in that blast. It's a good thing that Francis saw you and got you out in time!! Why didn't you pay attention to the time!!??! We only went over this 10 times!! That's it!! You stay in the van…better yet, you stay at the loft!!" At this point, Tyler was pacing in front of Angie as Det. Gatti checked out her bruieses. "Rollie, at least she is fine. You are fine, right Angie?" queried Francis. "Yes, I'm…."Angie started but was interrupted by Capt. VanDuren. "TYLER!! GATTI!! SANCHEZ!! What the hell is happening here!? Why was Ramirez used in this!??! And why wasn't I told of this?? Ms. Ramirez, are you fine?? Sanchez, do something; get a medic for this young girl" "But Capt. I'm …"Angie tried with no avail. "Tyler, I should bring you up on charges for this; God! I could lose my job because of you. Don't you have any brains!! Using someone that young on a job like this!!" "Well, believe me Capt. VanDuren, it won't be happening ever again!!" Rollie fairly screeched in the general direction of Angie. With that last statement from Rollie's tirade, all 3 policemen, with Rollie, left Angie in the care of FDNY's EMTs to compare notes on the explosion.

'Great' Angie thought to herself. 'I'm the one who gets CONNED into going in that building, then it's my fault. They all think because I am younger and smaller than them that I can't do this stuff!!! Hell, I'm the one that has the brains to figure out most of their problems!!! I'm the one who located this damned building!! Do I get a thank you!!? NO…are you OK KIDDO!??! Get a medic for this YOUNG GIRL!! Like I am in grade school!!!! Well, one day I am going to show them that I'm NOT a little girl anymore"………

CHAPTER ONE

"…so, what do you think of it, Rollie?? Rollie?? Are you listening to me?? Helloooo?!?!?" came the irritated question from Rollie Tyler’s assistant. "Huh? Oh, um, yeah looks great" was all that Rollie could muster for enthusiasm. With a sigh, Rollie walked from the lounge to the workstation to see the new project his assistant was working on.

"Look, I know that you miss her. But it has been a while, right? I mean it’s, what like 4 or 5 months now. I think you should get on with your life and stop …" "Mourning her?? It would be a pretty hard thing to do. And it is 6 months today.", was Tyler’s reply although the last was only meant to be heard by Rollie himself. "No, that is not what I was going to say. I was going to say to stop moping; you can be sooooo depressing at times that just looking at you makes ME depressed." "OK, OK, I’ll try?" "Fair enough. I’m just going to run down to the copier place and make sure that they are doing the layout in the right colors. Remember the last time?? Do you need anything while I’m out?" "Nope, I’m fine." "OK, later".

With that, Rollie Tyler was alone in his loft. Sitting back down to his workstation, going over in his millionth time in his life the worst moment in his life. Breathing hard so as to keep himself from crying, he said to himself out loud, "God, I can’t believe it. It has been 6 months already. Seems like it was only yesterday. I really miss you. Why did you die?? Angela, why did you leave me alone??

Seven Months earlier…

"ANGELA!!!!" boomed Rollie from the VR chamber. "Where are you!?!? What the bloody hell did you do to my program? Angela!!!!" he screamed as he flew down the stairs to the main floor. With a smirk, Angie Ramirez answered her boss while sitting at her workstation, "Who?? Me?? How come I always get the blame?? What makes you think I did something to your precious program?" "First of all, you are the only other person that works here. Second, you absolutely hate that program !!" "Nope, sorry. It wasn’t me." Angie said as she jumped off her stool and met her boss at the bottom of the stairs. "Oh, yeah? So, you aren’t lying are you?" Rollie asked with a devilish gleam to his eyes. Backing up in fear, Angie replied "uh, no, not lying. Rol, you know that I don’t lie" "Only because you are afraid of getting caught, right?" "Um…I’m sorry??" "Too late" Tyler said much too joyfully for Angie’s peace of mind, while still advancing on her. Before she knew enough to move, Rollie had tackled her and was now tickling her mercilessly. Laughing hysterically, Angie was on the floor with Rollie sitting on her legs tormenting her. With her laughing so hard, neither one of them heard the door.

As Bluey knew both Dets. Sanchez and Gatti, they were allowed entrance to the loft. Upon seeing the two F/X wizards on the floor, Det. Gatti cleared his throat and asked "Are we interrupting something? Have we come at a bad time?" "Francis, what would you do if I said that you were?" Rollie queried, "ah,well…next time Ange." He said with a leer, and with that, he helped his partner up from the floor who was trying to control her laughter but not succeeding very well. "Francis, have you two EVER come at a good time?" inquired the petite blonde. Francis Gatti looked to his partner Mira Sanchez for help, but she looked just as confused has he did.

"Looks like we’re doing it again, Rollie" Angie said as she walked to the workstation. "Doing it again? I’m sorry, but I am really confused." complained Gatti. "What Ange means is that we are weirding people out. Her father got like that a couple of times and a few of the other stuntmen Manny and I used to work with got like that all the time. It’s kinda fun." Rollie replied to his friend "Now, are you still confused?" "um….YES!" "OK, it’s like this. Most people think they know me and Angie—ya know, WHAT we are to each other. But then there are times when we confuse the hell out of them." "Like now?" "Like now" Rollie replied, as Angie chuckled in the background. "Are we done with the ‘Rollie & Angie History Lesson’? because if so, we were wondering if you could do us a favor?" inquired Mira. "How did I know that was coming? OK, just what is it this time?" Rollie asked as he walked over to her. As Rollie walked over to Mira, Francis went over to Angie who was busy at the workstation. "um…Angie?" "Yeah?" "What Tyler said before about confusing people? Does that happen a lot?" "Yep, a lot of people get confused by us." She said, then as an afterthought asked "Are YOU confused, Frank?" "Truthfully, yes. I always think that I got you two down then boom…I’m confused again. So, what’s the deal with the two of you?" His answer came in the way of a hearty chuckle from the little blonde.
