Cold was not = the word=20 to describe that morning, freeze your ass of was
more like it. Rollie = Tyler=20 was feeling the New York winter as he made his
way from his bedroom = to the=20 downstairs workshop. As he was coming
downstairs he saw Angie coming = in. She=20 called to him.
"Rollie, did you know there was something = left out in=20 front of your door?
I found it when I was coming = in?"
"What=20 was it?" He asked already walking over to the coffee maker = without
even=20 looking in her direction.
"Oh I think you better come and = take a=20 look for yourself."
"God Ang, what could be so = important that I=20 have to see for myse.." He
stopped as he came around the corner = to find=20 Angie holding a small girl
in her arm, who couldn't have been anymore = than a=20 year and a half. She
had deep brown eyes that looked suspiciously = familiar.=20 The little hair
she had seemed to match his own.
"Rol, = you wanta=20 explain some things to me?" Angie asked as she walked up
to the = stunned=20 Aussie.
"Bloody hell." He said in a half = whisper.
The=20 little girl turned to him and met his gaze. Angie then handed him = a
sealed=20 envelope that she had taken out of the girl's jacket pocket. = The
front read=20 "Mr. Rollie Tyler" in neat undescript printing. He opened = it
up an=20 pulled out a folded sheet of typing paper. Rollie began to read=20 out
loud,
"Dear Mr. Tyler,
This is your daughter Julia = Megan.=20 She is eighteen months old. Her mother
recently died in a car = accident. She=20 was left to me, as I am her aunt. I
however am unable to take care of = her. My=20 sister told me several times
that you are her father, I'm not = completely sure=20 of how true this is, but
I was left with no other choice. She did say = that=20 you would probably not
remember her, as your relationship was quite = brief. I=20 felt the only thing
for me to do was to leave Julia with you. Please = feel=20 free to run blood
tests if you are not convinced. Julia has been well = cared=20 for through her
life, and she is quite a delight really. I am sorry = that I=20 had to leave
her, but I feel you can give her a better life. I hope = to=20 someday come
back and see her. Please do not try and find me, I've = taken=20 great pains
to make sure you do not. She has no medical problems and = she has=20 had all
immunizations for her age. Take care of her.
ps. Don't = be=20 surprised if she knows who you are, her mother never kept
you a = secret. Her=20 first word was Daddy."
"Rol, do you have any memory of=20 this?" Angie asked.
"No. I.... I mean, I can't remember = anyone,=20 from eighteen months or I
guess more than that = now."
"I=20 didn't think you were the type for one night = stands."
"I'm not.=20 I don't think I've ever had one. If I did I think it would
stick out = in my=20 memory."
"I suppose you should have the blood test = then, if=20 there's any doubt in
your mind."
"How could I not be = her=20 father? I mean look at her."
Angie looked at the girl's = face, and=20 had to admit there was more than
just a slight similarity. "I = suppose=20 you do look alike, but I want you to
do it just to be=20 sure."
"Fine."
"And if it turns out = positive?=20 What are you planning on doing?"
"WHEN it turns out = positive,=20 I'm going to see about what I legally have
to go through to become = her=20 gaurdian."
"What?! Rollie you can't be serious. What do = you=20 know about raising kids?
Have you looked around this place, not = exactly=20 childproof is it?" Angie
blurted out, but then regretted when = she saw=20 his hurt expression. "I
mean, shouldn't you think about this = more?"=20 She asked a little more
sympathetically.
"Ang, I don't = need to=20 think about it anymore. If she's my daughter, well
I can't imagine = giving her=20 away to some agency where I don't know that
she'll ever wind up in a = home. I=20 mean even though she wouldn't have a
typical family with me, at least = I'd=20 always be here and it would be one
place to call home." He = replied=20 surprizing even himself with his very
sudden paternal feelings for = this girl=20 who had now fallen asleep in
Angie's arms.
"Well even = though I=20 may not agree with you, I will support whatever you
decide to do. And = I don't=20 want you to think that I think that you would
be a horrible father, = that's=20 not it at all. I just worry that you are
being too...impulsive on = this."=20 She said meaning every word of it. She
wanted to be there for him. It = was=20 just so hard to picture Rollie
with....a child. "Well I guess = you two=20 should start getting to know each
other so.." She handed the = girl over=20 to Rollie, she immediately woke up
and looked at him with a = thoughtful=20 expression.
"Dada." She said as she pointed at him and = smiled.=20 She then lay back
against him and went back to sleep. 'Oh ya' he = thought=20 'This is
definitely going to be=20 fun.'

characters are the property of Rysher I think, except for Julia Megan I
get to take claim for her creation, or rather Rollie does, :-) *LOL*
*Smirk*.
Summary:Rollie deals with single parenting, while he searches his memory
and other places for the origin of his daughter.
"By the power of the state of New York, I reward temporary custody of the
minor, Julia Megan, to one Rollie Tyler. This case will be reviewed in 6
months, and unless I see cause, Mr. Tyler will be given permanent custody
at that time. Is that alright Mr. Tyler?"
"Fine." Rollie said barely able to contain his grin.
"Good than this case is closed for 6 months." The judge said before he
slammed his gavel. He got up and exited into his chamber.
Rollie turned around and looked for Angie who had been holding Julia
during the hearing. Angie got up and walked over to him, and handed him
his daughter.
"So how you feel, .....dad?" Angie asked him, wondering what his reaction
would be exactly.
"Well great, scared, but great!" He replied as they started to walk out.
There had not been too much trouble in Rollie gaining custody of Julia.
The paternity test had come back positive. The courts try to keep
children with their blood parents, and since her mother was dead Rollie
was all Julia had left. There were also so many children in foster care,
that someone wanting to actually adopt her was a welcome option.
During the custody proceedings they let Julia stay with Rollie, which was
good and bad. He was seriously considering getting an apartment after
only two weeks. In that time she had successfully broken and dismantled a
PDA, opened a container of fake blood and at the same time gave Rollie
the scare of his life, and Rollie could see she had her sights on Bluey.
She had been scared of the mechanical pet when she took her first walk
around the workshop, but she had learned that he was quite a lot of fun
to play with. Which Rollie figured put poor Bluey in a lot of danger from
his little sweet heart. And there wasn't a whole lot of room for the
newly purchased crib in his bedroom. So an apartment close by was looking
like a better option each day.
Rollie secured Julia in the new car seat, and made sure that she had her
"bwanky", Bu. Rollie wasn't sure where she got the name from, until he
realized she had made some connection between her blanket and his "pet"
Bluey. She wouldn't go anywhere without it, and he'd made the mistake of
forgetting it once, but he'd never again. Rollie got into the driver's
seat and Angie into the passenger, and they started off.
"So what've you got planned?" Angie asked him after they were out into
the New York mid day traffic.
"Well I guess I'll take her with me to work, until she's old enough for
school, then she'll go to school during the day and come to whatever
project we're on after school, then college, maybe graduate school, maybe
she'll carry on her old dad's business in FX, I was thinking about
looking at colleges for her the other day, I mean you can never start
looking too earl-"
"I meant this afternoon!" Angie replied very amused by her friend's zeal
for his daughter's future.
"Oh, well I guess, go back to the shop, get some work done for tomorrow's
shoot. You're welcome to come back and get some work done."
"No, just drop me off at my apartment."
"Da, drop Bu!" Julia screamed from the back seat. Rollie slammed on the
brakes and looked in the mirror.
"Bloody hell! Julia you almost gave me a heart attack. No screaming. Ang,
can you reach back and get her Bu?"
"Sure." Angie said as she turned and handed the blanket to the girl who
seemed amused by her father's reaction.
"Shh, Julia, I think daddy is a little tense. Take it easy on him." Angie
said to the girl quietly.
"Bloody!" She said through giggles, very loudly.
"You're going to have to start watching yourself, she'll repeat
everything you say." Angie said turning back to the front.
"I know, she's already picked up more Australian slang than I knew when I
was her age, and she repeats it over and over." Rollie said as he pulled
up in front of Angie's building.
"Well I'll see you tomorrow. bye Rol, bye Julia."
"Bye Ang." Turning around to Julia, "say bye Julia."
"Hewwo!!" She screamed.
"No, bye Julia. You say bye when you are leaving." Rollie tried to
explain.
"HEWWO!!" She yelped again.
"I get the idea. Bye." Angie replied shut the door and walked to her
apartment.
"We'll work on that one." Rollie said as he pulled away.
"Bloody!!" was Julia's only reply.
"Bloody great." Rollie replied from the front seat.
Francis Gatti walked into the special effects workshop only to trip over
a small blue tricycle, and nearly fell over.
"Hi Francis." Angie greeted him still sitting at her computer.
"Hi, what the hell did I almost kill myself on?"
"Rollie decided to get Julia a tricycle."
"Isn't she a little young for that?"
"I thought so, but he thought it was too cute to pass up." Francis looked
at it and had to admit that the light blue tricycle with the big white
fluffy bunny face on the seat, was awfully cute. Angie walked over to
him. "What can I do for you?"
"Well Sarah just wanted me to come over and seen how Rollie was doing,
making sure she hadn't driven him nuts yet. I know how they are at that
age and I could see it happening."
"No, he's still sane, well Rollie Tyler sane." Angie said as Rollie came
down the steps holding Julia.
"Francis, I'm glad you're here, I was going to call Sarah about this.
Should she be drinking out of a bottle still? I didn't think so, I've
been using those cups with the tops on them, you know those thingys?"
"Ya, those are fine."
"Fwirsty." Julia said wiggling around so that Rollie put her down on the
ground.
"Rol, can you come here a minute?" Angie asked walking back over to her
work station.
"Francis could you-"
"Say no more." he said as he followed Julia who was running over to the
kitchen. "So kiddo what do you want?"
"Milk!!!"
"Okay milk it is." Francis poured some milk in her cup and brought it
over to Julia who was sitting in her high chair. She drank some but them
made a face.
"No, Milk!"
"That's what that is." He replied.
"No, Milk."
"Yes, Milk."
"Francis, she's right." Rollie called from the other room.
"What do you mean?"
"I should've warned you, she says milk when she wants juice, and juice
when she wants milk. It took me several days to figure her system out."
"Okay you crazy girl, I'll get you some juice."
"No milk!" she yelped again in protest.
"You're definitely Rollie Tyler's daughter."
"Bloody!" was all she could say.
After Julia was successfully pacified with her "milk" Rollie put her down
for her nap. He loved parenting but he had to admit that she was a
handful, and that he could even use a nap by now. He came back
downstairs, to find Francis still there.
"So, any luck in remembering her mother?" Francis asked.
"No, I wish I could, course even if I do remember I'm not sure I want to
try and track down her aunt."
"Why not?"
"Her aunt obviously did not want me to look for her or try and contact
her even if I did find her. And what if I did find her? What if she
decided that she had made a horrible mistake by leaving Julia with me and
she wanted her back?"
"The court awarded you custody." Francis replied.
"Ya, but Julia's mother left her to her aunt in her will."
"Abandonment." Angie threw in.
"Even still I'm hesitant. I don't want to lose her so soon after I got
her."
Rollie sat straight up in bed. He didn't often have dreams that woke him
up so suddenly, but most of his dreams didn't hold the key to the biggest
mystery in his life. He had somehow dreamt of Julia's mother, or at least
who he thought was her mother.
1) That whole Juice/Milk thing, my oldest sister did that when she was
little
2)Maureen is my middle sister, who I can thank for any inspiration to
write.

Disclaimer: I don't own them I wish I did
The only thing of mine is Rollie's kid
Ryhser owns them, that's all I know
Now there's no more, on with the show!
Julia peered out from between her crib bars at her father's empty bed,
middle finger and index finger securely stuck in her mouth. This was
different to her, usually she was up before he was, she had become his
alarm clock. Not today. She didn't know that her father had been up since
four o'clock that morning searching his aparment and workshop for some
picture or memory of her mother.
The dream had caught him off gaurd, but as soon as he woke up he knew it
was no dream, but a deeply buried memory. He didn't want to sleep again
for fear of forgetting something again, so he decided to go to work
looking for a picture or an address.
-------------------------
Rollie walked into his now some what cramped bedroom, exhausted but not
defeated. He looked down into Julia's crib and it only made him more
determined. She was awake now, and he would have to put his search on
hold, temporarily.
"Look who's up!" he said to her. She sat up and reached her hands out in
the air. "Up? okay okay." Rollie picked her up and grabbed Bu, and walked
out of the bedroom, and downstairs.
"Hey Rol," Angie called coming into the workshop.
"Hi Ang." He said meeting her downstairs.
"Late night? Late morning?" She asked. Rollie was at least usually
dressed by the time she got there in the morning.
"Well you could say that." He replied walking to the kitchen.
"Okay you've got my curiosity.."
"Last night I had a dream, except it wasn't a dream it was rather, a
memory." He said and Angie nodded for him to continue. "I dreamt ,or
remembered, who I am 99.9% positive is Julia's mother."
Angie nearly choked on her coffee. "Really?!! That's great! I think, is
it?"
"Yes Ang it is a good thing, .... I think."
"So.."
"What?" Rollie asked confused, Angie gave him a 'don't leave me hanging'
look. "Oh well her name was Maureen Traci. She was an actress/bartender,
more of a bartender when I met her. We got along great from what I
remember, we went out a couple of times. But she didn't want a
commitment, and we broke it off. I thought that would be the last I'd
ever hear of her, guess not."
"Do you have an address or phone number?"
"Well that's what I was looking for since four o'clock this morning, but
I haven't had any luck. I suppose it wouldn't do much good either, she's
dead. I'm thinking of having Francis check into it for me."
"Tyler FX...ya hi Francis.. I'll get him." Angie put the phone down.
"Rol, it's Francis for you."
"Thanks." He picked up the phone. "Hi Francis."
"Hi Rol."
"What can I do for you?"
"Well I ran the check on Maureen Traci,"
"And? Good or bad?"
"Well it depends, I do have to say it surprised me a little."
"Why?"
"Well according to what I've found, Maureen had no living relatives. Both
parents have been dead for at least five years, no brothers and sisters,
no aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, nothing. I thought you said that
it was her aun-"
Her aunt that left her with me, ya that's what I thought too."
