Mithril, an intelligent sword

An intelligent sword? I thought mithril was a metal!

Well, you're right, in a sense. Mithril is dedicated to the service of good, and he's a silver sword. Now, mithril means 'True silver'. Make sense? Anyway, Mithril's only his nickname that Vixen gave him.

So what's his real name?

Hey, hey, hey! You should know it's not a good idea to spread around your real name! There's some pretty sick mages out there that can really mess you up if they have it. But I suppose I could tell you- Mithril's pretty hard to mess with. His real name is Solus.

Like the Solar System?

Well, kinda. Solus, from Sol, meaning sun. Which is the same place we get Solar.

Okay, so what about this sword being intelligent, huh?

Ah, now we get to the meat of the matter..

Solus was born human and had three brothers. Each of them took different paths in life, but their familial loyalty was, and still is, remarkable. Solus trained as a priest; Umbrin became an assassin; Thaln took up diplomacy; and Aein threw himself into war (literally!) as a berserk. Despite their vastly different philosophies and ways of life, if ever any of them got into trouble, the rest were there to help him.
Well, Aein was always picking fights, and one time ticked off a goddess. I don't need to tell you that's trouble.. The rest stood by him, so the goddess didn't just smite him down, but she did turn them all into swords. You can imagine Thaln's reaction! Being a sword isn't ideal for a diplomat. Aein was delighted, of course, and Solus' god saw fit to let him continue to be a priest despite his change in shape. The upshot of all this is that these four swords are very hard to harm, being made that way by a divine power.

So, what's his connection with Vixen?

Hmm? Oh, yeah! Well, she found and claimed him, and is now his rightful wielder. They have an agreement where he can go out and adventure by himself all he wants, so long as he returns when she needs him.

Some of his abilities: He can wield himself, moving about on his own, and can still cast his huge array of clerical spells. Also, he can't be harmed except by a few things, which I'm not telling you about, so there! ;)

Mithril's a good guy to have at your back in a fight, too.
