How to Reach GECU
PE01803A.gif (1307 bytes)   About Hostel Life

Forty Two rooms, and residents roughly numbering about a hundred, but Life never seemed to stay still at GECU hostel. Hoo-hoo Haa-haa from TV room and out- lawn, sound of carrom board stricker, Yeah and Ho from TT room cum Mess, or buddies chasing each other in the corridors….

After the overnight jham, people would rush to Narayan ki gumti for 'pohe', and will not mind going to 'naka' even. The morning time is invested mainly in doing efforts in getting up and bracing for the college, reading newspapers etc. The Gym room rarely witnesses brave souls, working out there… It is mainly used for Ganapati Pooja or for storing hostel day 'saaman' !

Hostel building is adjacent to college building, and the hostellers are perhaps distances away from the good books of Professors. As the college bell rings for the start of the day, a people in bunches are suddenly seen coming out from hostel , rushing towards college building, and zapping into the class-rooms.

As the evening dawns, guys turn smarter than their earlier appearances of the day…Questions like - so smart today !! are responded with the whistling sounds and fingers rolling through the hair…Arey! Heading for where… Freeganj of course yaar! (Hmmm! seems that lot of Vit A is prescribed..) And then after return, sometimes fantasies are shared or sometimes sympathetic years are the only need. People return to hostel in late evening, with triumphatic feeling… for some it was movie, for some Mahakaal, for some…Gopal Mandir…

The residents are trained to discriminate between ' eating to live' and ' living to eat '. The former is practiced daily in the hostel, while the latter is adopted on the Hostel Day ! Hostel Day is one of the most cherishing moment which everyone of us would wait for. 100% fun and 100% freedom. Sports, Literary activities and Culural eve arrangements start a week before, and more and more hungama feeling pours in uptil the final day. This is the occasion when everyone puts his best to leave a lasting impression on the guests. Our cherished guests are Principal, Warden, Professors and importantly of course, the guests from GH. This is the day when Warden can boast of the Hostel culture, and try his best to lever against the sins committed by hostellers all throughout the year. And this evening, everyone will coo and sing from inside to feel that 'freeing' joy which will 'bind' him with this hostel till he remembers his education…

Life at GECU hostel, is a sentence which is full of keywords like - GECU maharaj, bhawani junction, jham, jhanki, junnu, case, baboolkhedi, Ranka Mahal, Geetabai, Pulia, and Dhaba (hostelmates may contribute more here). In a way the hostellers are a creed which is highly self interested … and we are no exceptions. But we are exceptions in the way we live together in our hostel ; be it a panga anywhere or be it a collection of the money for somebody's mess bill - the sense of togetherness is felt alike all times !

It makes us even more attached when we relate this fraternity and our GECU Hostel to the 'dosti' of Krishna and Sudama in Sandipani Ashram in the same land of Ujjain - the Kingdom of Vikramaditya.
