Hypothetical rational behind the imitation of Stephane Beel

The reasons of using the ideas of other architects’ houses because these ideas can fit in the surrounding environment of the site and the desire of the clients. Actually architects have to work with both nature and man.

Environment

1. The reason of Beel using the concept of house as pavilion and minimalism of Mies Van der Rohe because both of their house are built in rural area with lots of trees in USA that is with similar environment.

Using plenty of glass, creating patios, having a simple rectangular plan with transparent walls has no conflicts with privacy; as the architect seamlessly balance various aspects. People can still live in such house working, sleeping and relaxing in untrammeled privacy, but have the advantage of merging with nature and have good views.
Besides, Beel would like to leave the site largely unchallenged.

Villa Maesen

Farnsworth house

The house stands in the grounds of an old castle surrounded by its plantations of tall fir and rhododendrons

In rural with no visible neighboring dwellings and with many tall trees around also

2. The reason for Beel to use cedar panelling as Marcel Breuer did is because both the houses are situated in USA and in rural area so that they have similar environment. The cedar boards are easily found and can match the plantation around.

  • For a single woman who is a distinguished Chicago physician
  • The client requested Mies Van der Rohe to build a country place for her
