Techniques of elaborating concepts-Part 2

Tranquility through transparent , metaphorically dematerialized glass walls

As Farnsworth house is in an unsullied natural environment so that it may be contemplated in tranquility through transparent, metaphorically dematerialized glass walls.
Villa Maesen uses wide glass windows.
Outdoor patios
Farnsworth house has a patio as wide as the house extending the length one bay from the west end Villa Maesen features small outdoor patios which are placed around the perimeter of the house where views of the garden are framed by vertical white planes: creating small, intensely private courtyards. Besides, small patios continue the visual axis through the house - "patios are outdoor rooms that mediate distance and closeness", as Beel believed.
Presence of terrace
Farnsworth house has two flights of travertine steps, one rising to a rectangular terrace that slides parallel past the main volume in an asymmetrical composition, the second to the floor plane and second terrace, hence to the single portal on the west, or short, side of the house.
Villa Maesen has the front door which is approached along a broken flag stones lying at the bottom of the house then up a in situ concrete ramp to an podium. The first elevation is replaced by a terrace.

Cantilever(steel used by Beel but not by Breuer)
Breuer house I uses cantilever in four directions of the concrete base to create the floating appearance of the house with a floating balcony. Tension of cables is utilized to support this effect. As the house uses diagonal boarding to reinforce the truss effect of the frame so that the house floating element without using steel structural member. Villa Maesen only has one part of cantilever supported by steel but not wood.

After this, let's have a look on the materials used and the forms of the 3 houses.
