Illinois 171 is a north-south route from Joliet to where Chicago meets the near west suburbs. Its northern end is near O'Hare Airport.

IL171 starts on Cumberland Ave. at a section of IL72 that runs along the north side of I-90 (the Kennedy Expy.)

IL171 ends at US6/30 at downtown Joliet.

It passes through these towns: Chicago, Norridge, River Grove, Maywood, Riverside, Lyons, Summit, Willow Springs, Lemont, Lockport, Joliet.

Notable places: IL171 passes by Brookfield Zoo near Riverside, just north of US34. It follows the Des Plaines River for just about its entire length.
