"The Show" by Doug E. Fresh & MC Ricky D (Slick Rick) and thus would begin the infatuation with hip-hop. Living in Newark, DE but being bussed 40 mins into Wilmington, DE would also be a big factor in his appreciation for the music. From lunch table battles to playground cyphers, the kid fell deeper and deeper into the culture. No matter what his address, he always sought out a way to hear rap and connect with others into it. While still in his high school/young teen years, he wrote many a letters to different record labels asking questions about the industry and how to get involved. Paul Moshay, (at the time) from Delicious Vinyl, would have the biggest impact with words of wisdom. He had Med passing out stickers, flyers, looking for new acts and more. He took what he learned there and also put in street/intern work for Wild West, Rawkus, among others. He spent many hours and nights in the basement, freestyling with his best friend Qiana (female emcee known now as Chanziz R). His skills off the top were so impressive - that he even had Golden Boy (WUSL/Power99) asking him to spit rhymes whenever he could get through. His interests in writing also lead him from doing his own hip-hop e-zine IOL! to writing for magazines such as URB and BPM Culture Magazine.
