2003-2004 Torrey Pines Surf Team Info

The Torrey Pines High School Surf Club-Team, which operates as an off-campus “self funding” club.

Our contest activities are thru the International Scholastic Federation (ISF) that has been operating for some 15 years and now has chapters operating from San Diego to Santa Cruz. The competition team also participates in 2 annual N.S.S.A. scholastic championships in March and May of each year. The ISF is a I.R.S. non-profit corporation and is directed by Diane Steuer of Carlsbad for the last 10 years or so under the supervision of a Board of Directors.

Please understand that this information is subject to change as the final contest schedule will be agreed upon at the Coach’s Annual meeting in early September.

*I am pleased to announce that KC Strang(1991 graduate and staff member of San Diego City Councilman Scott Peters office) for shortboards. Here is a quick bio: Current and life long Del Mar/Carmel Valley resident with 20 years of surfing experience. Graduate of Brigham Young University of Hawaii, which I believe is on the North Shore.

The season will start as follows:

ISF CONTEST SEASON: October thru February.

NSSA CONTESTS: March and May.

FIRST PRACTICE IS ON 10-1(EACH WED. AT 3:15 PM AT 15TH STREET)

CLUB SEASON IS 9-22 THRU MAY OF 2004

FIRST TRIALS FOR TEAM SEATING EARLY OCTOBER. Plans are for a 2nd trial in early January.

There will be video-pizza nights 3-5 for the season so if you have any film-video footage-please prepare it for viewing.

*Trips during the season will be considered, but participation will be limited since we have to provide heavy parent supervision and of course this will be an additional cost item. Fund raisers and team sponsorships will be considered. The I.S.F. has been recently approached by a private school in Costa Rica for an surfing-student exchange sometime during their school year. There website is: www.countrydayschoolguanacaste.org We are doing a response in order to get more details such as proposed dates, costs and what housing and services that they can provide.

Please understand that the purpose of this club and team is for the enjoyment and advancement of your boarding skills. We are open to your suggestions and welcome assistance from “any qualified source”.
