ex•is•ten•tial•ism ( g z -st n sh -l z m, k s -) n. A philosophy that emphasizes the uniqueness and isolation of the individual experience in a hostile or indifferent universe, regards human existence as unexplainable, and stresses freedom of choice and responsibility for the consequences of one’s acts. The battle of logic vs. faith A new idea keeps rehashing itself on the basis of how I look at even the simplest things. But then again, these realizations might not be so seemingly clairvoyant; they could be purely coincidental and as mundane as searching for the proper word in a thesaurus. However, imagine hearing a word you (and probably the rest of the world) have not cared to hear and finally pondering that word for weeks or even months before deciding to look it up, when you come to find that this word defines you (in a good sense of course.) The reason I denote such a situation lies within my relativity. Faith is belief in something on one’s own discretion, without the application of logic. The occurrence aforementioned can be likened to that of foresight. However, I would find it foolish to hear of anyone with vested faith in something that ascends so far beyond the standards of logic upheld by most societies, but I’m somewhat amazed by the relevance things like tarot cards and horoscopes can have to such intimate aspects of someone’s life. These perspectives are there whether you choose to believe or not and touch on most people’s lives in a very extroverted sort of way, so of course most could see the ease in application of these aphorisms to one’s life.
