NEW UPDATES!
:: November 6th 2005. Hey everyone! I hope you're keeping up with the website :). It'd be great if you keep a check on it regularly, even if there aren't any updates! Last meeting we discussed a possible City Ordinance to enact a new policy. This policy regards the apartment complexes in our community that DO NOT have any recycling disposals. I'd like to clarify that apartment complexes house hundreds of people, and there are definitely MANY around here in our city. One of our members made us aware of this situation, and unfortunately I was definitely unaware of this situation. This is great because there are a lot of people who cannot go to a proper disposal for recycables. Let alone, the time to go out and dispose it properly.
I'm glad we're going to work on this because it's definitely an issue that needs to be taken care of. Recycling is just one of the many steps that can better our community, and of course, our Earth. Check out www.bottlesandcans.com for MORE information on how we're going to do this. It might be a slow and painful process, but I'm sure we can get some progress into this. I hope to see everyone/most people tomorrow (Monday) during lunch for our 3rd meeting. It's been hard getting people to come, so let's advertise some more, shall we :)?
Sorry for this LONGGGGGG entry, guys :).

About Us
Earth Resource Foundation is a county-wide non-profit organization dedicated to promoting environmental awareness and stewardship. There are currently 18 ERF high school clubs in Orange County and 1 in Los Angeles. Most clubs are centered around Costa Mesa and nearby cities. The ERF club at ANHS was founded in spring 2004.
At ANHS, the year is divided into seasons instead of semesters in order to allow an even distribution of events throughout the year and to "adopt the pace of nature" (Ralph Waldo Emerson.) Additionally, members will be able to witness the beauty of Nature in different environments and climates.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to preserve, conserve, and restore the Earth to
a healthy and sustainable state by promoting environmental awareness through stewardship, education, and activism.
FOUR Main
Goals
::Beach Clean-Up
::Habitat Restoration
::Tree Planting
::Educating Elementary Students
Requirements
:: 3 hours of environmental volunteer
work EACH season
(fall, winter, spring, summer.)
::$5 fee
::fundraising (sell 5 bars of
Newman's Organic Chocolate)
Those who meet the requirements will be given the opportunity to
participate in social events
at the end of each season! We have other rewards for
those with outstanding participation.
Fundraising
::Newman's Organic Chocolate
-Organic means that the chocolate was produced in a manner that is environmentally sustainable (i.e. no pesticides, genetic alteration, herbicides, etc. are used on the cocoa plants)
-Each member is required to sell at least 5 bars of chocolate per year. You can even eat them yourself if you do not wish to sell any.
- Cost is $1 per bar. You must turn in money before withdrawing chocolate at the meetings. After selling the chocolate, you may keep the money you collect. You can always order more later on in the year.
-The profit will not only go towards ERF but also towards rainforest conservation programs.
-Top sellers will receive eco-friendly prizes at the end of the year.
- Please visit
Crunchtime and Newman's Own Organics for more information.
::Recycling: Empty Inkjet Printer Cartridges
-IT IS ILLEGAL TO THROW AWAY PRINTER CARTRIDGES THROUGH THE RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM. Like batteries, they must be sent to a proper disposal facility. Printer cartridges that are improperly thrown away are extremely harmful to the environment! They should be recycled instead of dumped into landfills, where the nonbiodegradeable cartridges pile up, never to be removed. About 400,000,000 printer cartridges are dumped into landfills annually. Additionally, the remains of ink and toxins contaminate the soil and seep into our groundwater supply.
-Please bring them to Mrs. Murphy's room (701) and we will make sure they are properly disposed.
-Visit www.empties4cash.com for more information.
-Look for our flyers posted around school! And please spread the word!
::Recycling: Old Cellular Phones
If you have any old cellular phones that you no longer use, we would greatly appreciate it if you donate them to our club. These can also be turned in to Mrs. Murphy. Again, please spread the word!
The money collected in these year-long fundraisers will go towards ERF for future activities, such as Arbor Day and Earth Day events. A portion will also be donated to several environmental organizations, such as those dedicated to saving wildlife and endangered species.
