NORTHWIND RIDERS TANKBAG

June 2009

From the Director’s Chair

I’ve been thinking about what a great group of women we are.  We mentor new riders, encourage each other and give advice to help all of us become better riders.

I’m very proud to be part of this group and want to say thank you to everyone who has helped me learn to ride better and safer.

It’s pretty amazing when you think about the number of women we have who have volunteered to plan rides, weekends, etc.  A lot of hard work goes in to keeping this group busy.

I hope everyone is as excited about our ride schedule as I am; there are a lot of rides to venture out on this summer.

Again, thank you to everyone who has volunteered their time, energy and knowledge to make this club what it is.

Ride safe, ride often

Cindy

Chapter Director

Minutes of Meeting – May 16, 2009

Cindy called the meeting to order at 9:45 am and read the W.O.W. Mission statement. In our Secretary’s absence, Lynn acted as temporary secretary and took minutes.

Cindy welcomed three new visitors to the meeting.  Kathy from Villa Park rides a Honda Shadow, but came to the meeting by 4-wheels with a heater!  She heard about us through a co-worker.   Denise from the NW side of Chicago/Portage Park area rides an HD Sportster.  Denise visited our booth at the 2008 IMS, suffered a broken leg and re-found us on the internet this year.  Carol came with Robyn and rides an 1100 Yamaha.

Secretary's Report:

There were no changes, additions or deletions to the previous meeting’s minutes.

Treasurer's Report:

Judy read the current financial status report.  It was moved and seconded to accept the report as read.

Ride Coordinators Report:

Lynn reviewed last weekend’s ride to Poopy’s in Savanna: three NWR participated, Lynn, Robyn and Rusty.  The weather was cold and windy (35 mph gusts!).  We joined four Wild Roses members and two supports at Grubsteakers Restaurant at IL-64 and IL-251.  A warm setting and hot coffee were appreciated. Gigi’s husband, Mark, led the group on a ride through some of the area’s scenic, curvy back roads and then onto IL-84 and down to Poopy’s Pub & Tattoos near Savanna, IL.  Poopy’s is unique and dedicated to motorcycle riders with specific MC-only  parking in back; an outdoor, covered dining area and bar; several picnic tables; a band stage (with a

group performing/practicing while we were there); camping area; inside dining areas; a store with clothing and stuff for people and bikes; and several tattoo rooms.  The food was great and the servings huge! The group met our State Ambassador, Rusty H., three members and one support of the River Riders chapter.

After a short wait while shopping, we were seated together for a great lunch … all except Valerie of the Wild Roses.  She gave up her eating and shopping time for a Tattoo!  We didn’t get to see it that day, since it was bandaged, but a picture of it was emailed and it is a great tat! After all the socializing everyone said their good-byes and geared-up for their ride home.  Chris and Rusty H. generously led Lynn, Robyn and Rusty L. on a few local roads that included a covered bridge and back roads to IL-30 where we parted company.  The day was a great one and another example of our Mission Statement in action!

Kim reviewed the FVC Membership event/ride of May 3rd:  20 riders and 2 passengers, including 4 Wild Roses;  lots of new faces.  The Red Hawk Riders had another event that day.  FVC’s own Michelle W. “sliced” her thumb preparing the bagels for everyone (the boys owe her big time for this!).   She had to forego leading the ride to get 12 stitches at the emergency room!  She gave her map to Kim and said “Have Fun!”  Our thanks to FVC for planning this event and providing the eats and drinks; Kim led, JoAnne road sweep and off we went.  The group rode out to Silver Springs State Park for a short ride-thru and a circle of the parking lot.  After we stopped for some socializing, the group split up with 7 continuing on with Kim leading.  Liz led a small group homeward and a couple others took off on their own.  Kim and JoAnne “conspired” to give the seven of us a spirited ride!  The name “McGough” will definitely put a smile on Lynn’s face.  For just “winging it”, it was a great success!!  Thanks Kim and JoAnne.

Committee Reports:

CJ reported on the 2009 NWR Midwest Gathering, East Peoria, June 5, 6 & 7 (Fri - Sun).  She announced that we are expecting about 40 people from NWR and four or five other Chapters.  East Peoria is approximately two hours from the Bolingbrook area, I-55 to Rte 24.  (See Tankbag Tidbits for more details.)

Old Business

Kim attended the Accident Scene Management Course on May 2 which was offered through ABATE.  She rated the course as very good and worthwhile!!  You can go onto UTube to view the video “Morning Fall” for a small insight as to the importance of such training.  Kim highly recommended the course as a chapter event.  Minimum class size is 10 participants.  Judy will look into getting more info for the chapter.

New Business
