NORTHWIND RIDERS TANKBAG

December 2008

From the Director’s Chair

Happy Holidays Ladies!  I hope everyone was able to get their bike put up for the winter before this weather hit; talk about winter coming on fast and hard.

I wish all of you good health and peace in the New Year.

Until we can ride together again, be safe.

Minutes of Meeting – November 15, 2008

Cindy called the meeting to order at 9:35 AM.   We welcomed new member Kelly from Warrenville, then Cindy read the WOW Mission Statement.

Secretary's Report:

No additions, deletions, or changes were noted to the October meeting minutes

Treasurer's Report:

Judy reported on the current financial statement.  C.J. moved to accept the report, LaVerne seconded, and the motion passed.

Road Captain’s Report:

After the last meeting in October, we rode to Elmer’s Dog House in Montgomery for lunch.  Then everyone headed to Fox Valley Cycle for the Women Only Maintenance Seminar presented by Bob Conley.  His presentation focused on winterizing and was extremely informative with helpful, detailed explanations.  His Q & A session which followed the presentation was appreciated by all.  The door prize, won by Georgene J., was a large basket of maintenance/winterizing goodies.  (Cindy REALLY appreciated Georgene’s gifting that trickle charger to her.)

The FVC Mystery Ride was the next day on Sunday, October 19.  The destination was the BIG mystery and the circuitous route Kim led us on kept it a mystery the whole way.  See the write-ups submitted by Pam and Judy in the November Tankbag for all the details.

On Friday, November 14, FVC hosted Ladies Night Out at their store.  There was good food and talk and we were entertained by a DVD produced by Michelle and Chris of the Scavenger Hunt Contest photos put to music.  We had really good laughs at some of the pictures.  Afterwards, Chris announced the winners of the Scavenger Hunt Contest.  Congratulations to 1st Place winner JoAnne and 2nd Place winner Kim who were each presented with a prize.

Approximately 25 attended the Fall Gathering/WOW Family Event at Dave & Busters in Addison on Sunday Oct 26.  Northwind Riders, Redhawk Riders, and Wild Roses WOW chapters were represented.

Committee Report:

The Executive Board met on November 1 to review the chapter’s Constitution and Bylaws.  The revised documents were published on the Northwind Riders Chat Room and hard copies were distributed at the November 15 meeting for review by chapter members.  Discussion by those present resulted in changes to Articles 15 and 17 of the Constitution, and to Bylaws numbers 1, 6 and 8.  The revised Constitution and Bylaws will again be sent via email to NWR members and the new revisions will be voted on for acceptance at the December 20 meeting.

Cindy reported on her research for Northwind Rider window clings.  She had obtained quotes form Kinkos and Sign-O-Rama getting the best cost at a little over $2 each.  Discussion followed then Pam made a motion to go ahead with order, Kim seconded and the motion passed.  The cost to members who wish to purchase will be chapter’s cost rounded up to an even dollar amount.

The Holiday Party is coming up on January 31.  See address and directions for location of party in this newsletter.  Start time is 6:00 PM.  Cindy has posted a food sign-up list on our website.  The members present decided there will be no grab bag/gift exchange at the party.

Old Business

Judy reminded everyone that she is now accepting $15.00 contributions from members for 2009.

The committee of C.J. and Marilyn scoped out a new site for the 2009 annual Mr. Lincoln’s Campout weekend and presented information on a location they found in the East Peoria area; they believe it is the one that fits all our needs.  After hearing a very detailed and well laid out presentation by the committee, a motion was made by JoAnne to make their suggestion the new site.  LaVerne seconded, and the motion passed.  The motel is the Stoney Creek Inn at $99 per night (800-659-2220 or www.stoneycreekinn.com).  Call early and mention WOW to get the reduced rate.  Camping is available at the Spindler Campground and Marina about ¼ mile from the Inn.  Tent and RV sites are available, showers and more. Both the Inn and the campsite are ON the Illinois River.  See the 2009 Midwest Ride-In flyer for more information.

Because we will no longer be staying in Springfield, a suggestion was made to change the name of the yearly event to better represent it.  The “Midwest Ride-In” was one of those suggested; a motion was made and passed to make that the event’s new name.  Mark your calendars – June 5, 6, & 7 is the weekend of the “2009 Midwest Ride-In” in East Peoria.

DON’T FORGET! – your 2008 Points of Interest and Mileage Contest information must be turned in at the December meeting.

ALSO, please bring a brief write-up of your suggestion for a ride destination to the December meeting for the 2009 calendar.  You don’t have to lead the ride – just give the Ride Coordinator some ideas.  Maybe you know a really interesting route or destination that would be a fun ride for the group to make.

New Business

The 2009 International Motorcycle Show is scheduled for February 6, 7, & 8at the Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL.  Rusty H. has posted a sign-up sheet for volunteers to work shifts at the WOW show booth.

The situation of a family in need was brought to our attention by a couple of members already involved in helping.  This family of five had been living with relatives for a year but has recently found a house to rent in the Fox Lake area.  However, they have no furnishings, kitchenware, linens, beds, etc.  One of the parents works and pays their rent and buys some food, but not much else.  After discussion, a motion was made by Elizabeth to adopt the family for the Holidays, LaVerne seconded, and it passed.  To fund our adoption, a motion was made by Marilyn to decrease the donation we normally make to the library by $100 and use that to buy food cards for the family.  Judy seconded the motion and it passed.  Anyone wishing to help out personally can bring non-perishable foods to the December meeting.  C.J. will deliver any food or other donated items.  See the chat room for an email from CJ with a list of items the family is in most need of.

Kim reported that the Fox Valley Cycle Open House is December 6 from 9AM – 4PM.  A motion for Northwind Riders to have a booth at the open house was passed.  Everyone who is available is asked to sign up for booth duty.  At the booth we will be passing out information about our organization and seeking new member applications.

There being no further business, JoAnne moved to adjourn, Kim seconded and it was passed.  The meeting was adjourned at 11:43 AM.

Respectfully submitted,

Jan S.

Secretary
